I have a light saber i need to check on a flight. Is this durable enough to check?

The pluses about the product are that it is expandable and light weight. It also has an adjustable carrying strap. I Use two of them. One is used for my conducting batons, and the other one for carrying a flute. However, I've never checked them into a baggage hold on a plane. If I had to do so, I would line them with foam rubber for extra protection.

Does the clear end cap piece screw off or pop off?

The solid color top screws off. The clear plastic cap pops off and allows you to slip a business card or similar under as they often start looking all alike.
