Seems to Keep my Dog at Bay
I have a one year old beagle that loves to dig up the grass in my yard. Normally that is not a huge deal, but I have been working to create an area of nice lawn about 30' by 60' that is similar to the fairway on a golf course so I can practice my iron striking. I am not sure if it is the smell of the grass seed or something under the soil, I do have some mole problems, but she likes to dig in this area. She does not dig real deep just enough to pull up the new seedlings just as it is taking hold - very frustrating. I did some research and one thing I came across was using Cayenne Pepper to ward off critter that get into gardens or dig up the grass. So with that I purchased this bag of pepper to give it a try. I put some in a cup and sprinkled it lightly in her favorite spots and so far it seems to have worked. It has been a few days and the only places she has dug has been outside of this area. I plan to rope it off as well to hopefully give her a feel for the forbidden space and ensure I am not getting to wild with the stuff. It does not seem to cause her any problems at all. She just stopped sniffing in this area for the most part and her typical pattern it to sniff and then dig. It only took about two solo cups to cover the space and I can probably use less if I can come up with a more efficient method of dispersal. Either way a bag should last a while as I know it will likely need to be reapplied after it rains and I will probably be stopping soon as winter is setting in her in Michigan. But at least now I have a way to deal with it and prevent me from yelling at her, which does pretty much nothing other than to make me feel bad and her to wonder what the heck I am yelling about. So if you are considering a purchase for a similar reason I can say it is worth a shot and you get a lot for the money. I suppose I could use it to cook as well if I run out of cayenne pepper.

Don't hate that I don't cook with this.
Yes I use cayenne to cook but it's normally a sauce or fresh from the garden. What I use this great stuff with is to controle the little critters that like my garden more than I. Thats right I use this to mix a spray that goes on to my fruits, Veg, even the lawn and fruit trees. This works so well; it keeps the bunnies away from my beans which they go nuts for. I mention lawn, it keeps the snails and slugs under control very well also. Yes, if you are using on some that goes plant to table you should rinse it. You can find a good tutorial and recipe all over the WEB and at most extensions too.

Nice and spicy! But- this won't prevent a horse and donkey from eating stuff they shouldn't
I'd intended this to be a deterrent to keep horses and their donkey compatriots from eating mesquite beans. As it turns out... this didn't work one iota. They just licked their lips and kept eating! Guess I'll be needing to find some recipes I can spice up instead!

I Do Not Recommend For Pest Control; However: 5/5 stars For Recipes
If you need this for a recipe this is great. If you need this because you watched or read that sprinkling cayenne peppers will keep squirrels and rodent from invading your garden, look elsewhere. I purchased this for keeping squirrels and rodents from eating up my garden. I actually watched in horror as a squirrel enjoyed eating my jalepeno ;these city squirrels are tough. But in all seriousness, the squirrel were harvesting the jalepeno's (before) they became hot on the plants. Nonetheless, this doesn't not work well for keeping squirrels away or roof rats. It might work okay for the country-side where they have more food options being as this may be a bit irritating to get to the goal, they may look elsewhere. But where there is no elsewhere because we are in the city, they will not be offended by cayenne pepper. NOTE: If you are using this cayenne pepper for a recipes 'yay' go for it!

Deer repellent..
I purchased this bulk cayenne pepper to sprinkle on my vegetable plants in the garden. It is a great deer deterrent. Deers do not like the smell or taste of this pepper.
