Great quality, very happy!
These are excellent hoists at a great price, way more heavy duty than I expected. We have a very light canoe, and a pretty heavy angler’s kayak that these were purchased for. The hardware is all heavy duty, metal, and good quality. The canoe is easily raised and lowered by one person without even thinking about it. The heavier kayak you have be more careful with if it’s only one person, but the brakes work well and I’m still very confident raising and lowering by myself at 125lbs (me, not the kayak). I’m actually a little shocked that they’re so affordable. 100% recommend. I almost bought a single one of lesser quality at a tag sale for more, so I’m really happy I decided to do some looking around and got these. The instructions, especially the diagrams, made them super straight forward to install.

Not at all disappointed
Just finished installing. As long as you take your time working through the instructions/pictures, it goes just fine. Works very well; brake is easy to utilize, kayak is easy and safe to raise and lower with one person. Materials seem to be of good quality. Hopefully it stands the test of time, but for first impressions, this kayak lift system is excellent.

Yak Kayak Hoist – A Sturdy and Reliable Ceiling Lift
I’ve installed several ceiling-mounted kayak hoists, and the Yak Kayak Hoist is a significant step up from the typical, flimsy bicycle hoists you’ll find online. This hoist is well-designed, with sturdy mounting brackets that make it much easier for a single person to install securely. Unlike other models, the hooks that hold the straps are larger and more secure, preventing them from slipping off—something I’ve seen happen with cheaper alternatives. That said, I’m giving it four stars because the included ropes aren’t long enough for garages with high ceilings and longer kayaks. I’ve needed to replace the ropes with longer ones to get the right functionality. Overall, it’s a great investment if you want a durable, easy-to-use kayak lift that won’t leave you struggling with flimsy parts. Just be prepared to get extra rope if you have a high ceiling or a particularly long kayak.

Works great for bicycles
Most of the bicycle hoists which I could find seemed to be engineered to meet a low price point and not sturdy enough for safely storing bicycles overhead on a 13’ high ceiling. This hoist was designed for kayaks, so it is sturdier than most of the bicycle hoists. It came with two complete hoists, perfect for my 2 bicycle family. I provided the 1x4 lumber screwed to ceiling joists (see photos.) I also purchased marine style rope cleats to safely fasten the ropes to the wall (see photo.) The provided cleats would probably have worked fine, but I installed them next to the marine cleats to hold the excess rope when the bikes are in the uppermost ‘ceiling’ storage position. The cam rope locks work well and seem very secure, but, of course, you should use two rope twists on each cleat for redundant safety - don’t want a falling bike to destroy an expensive car or a human. The bikes are easy to raise and lower - and can also be secured in mid air to do maintenance work without having the bend over or squat. Some reviewers criticized the included rope, but it is certainly more than sturdy enough for bicycles. The j hooks are width adjustable and are also sturdier than the ones provided in typical ‘bicycle’ hoists, and worked very well on the seats and handlebars. In my bicycle application, I did not see any use for the webbed straps provided for holding kayaks, so I threw them in my parts bin for future use. The pulley wheels are nylon/plastic instead of steel. I’ve seen these types of pulley wheels fail on block and tackle equipment, but they were moving enormous loads. I think these nylon pulleys are sturdy enough for the much lesser weight of bicycles. But I would have been happy to pay a few extra bucks for steel - can’t the manufacturer offer steel pulley wheels as an upgrade option? Summary: fair price for two hoists that look great and do the job. I often get compliments on how cool these hoists look in my garage. ‘Nuff said.

Don't recommend for 8ft or lower beams
Works well but top of kayaks will hang at least a foot from the ceiling/beams. Unless you have a tall garage these will hang very low (had to duck to walk under them, I'm 5'9") Hardware broke before it was even tightened so i had to make a trip to the hardware store to install brackets. Diagram for installation is not great. Rope is not great quality and would likely need replacing rather quickly and left black all over my hands.

Stores anything!
Fantastic product you can use to store anything if you are creative enough. As others have said there is not enough rope for higher ceilings and wider spaced items. But rope is super easy to buy.

Forget Kayak's - these things are awesome for everything else
I love these things. The quality of materials and design make them awesome for many applications. Also, please don't get them confused with the lower cost bike hoists that you can purchase on Amazon as well. There is a big difference in the design of these products (e.g. weight capacity, ease of use, ease of installation, included accessories, etc.). I don't own a single kayak, but I have used these hoist to hang a 24 ft extension ladder, a wheel barrel, and fertilizer spreader. Note, the included Kayak straps were very handy for securing around the ladder. Now keep in mind, none of these items are lite, this product is a heavy duty, well made, hoist that should last for many years. Considering how economical they are and how much they have freed up valuable space, I am thinking about what else I can hang from my ceilings
