Ruby Braff - Buddy Tate With The Newport All Stars

This is a CD re-issue of a Black Lion label studio recording from 1967; a thoughtful pairing of cornettist Braff and the Texas tenorist, Tate.The Newport All Stars are George Wein on piano, Jack Lesberg on bass and Don Lamond, drums; the album consists of well-known jazz standards including a couple of alternative takes and one previously unreleased track – “Lullaby of the leaves”.It`s good, polished, swinging mainstream jazz with plenty of soloing; if you know either of these great front-liners you'll know what to expect – Braff and Tate each get a feature track to themselves (actually Tate gets two), the trio get one and sparks fly on a couple of tracks.All in all this is an enjoyable album – just a shame there are no sound samples available; the CD has a run-time of just over 1 hour.
