The BEST, but new edition doesn't add much at all
My "mini-DiPiro" was the best purchase that I made before going on pharmacy school clinical rotations. Most basic information you can now easily grab from MicroMedex or UpToDate, but this book is a fantastic tool for guiding complex drug therapy regimens for disease states.Essentially this handbook takes the monster sized DiPiro tome and pulls out of it all the bullet points, tables, charts, and diagrams that you could ever want. All the major disease states are fantastically broken down with sections on diagnosis, guidelines, symptoms, and key points on the various classes of medications used to treat the conditions. The only flaw that keeps this review from a much deserved 5 stars is that I had already owned the 7th edition. Wanting to stay on top of the curve for new pharmacotherapy developments I made a somewhat foolish gamble and bought an 8th edition recently. The 8th edition adds almost nothing to the 7th. Some chapters actually seem to have less information than before (maybe things were too cluttered?).Still though, this is THE BEST pharmacy handbook that you can own. It's the only book reference that I regularly use at my job.

A MUST HAVE for any pharmacy student.
If you're looking for this text, odds are that you're a pharmacy student. Congratulations! Your professors probably told you you need to buy DiPiro's at some point during your educational career. I haven't used it as much as they'd like to think I do, but it really is *THE* go to reference for pharacotherapy (and even some pathophysiology) questions. I purchased both the full-sized textbook as well as this handbook, which is my recommendation for you. The full-size text contains A LOT of information that won't be included in the handbook, which makes it a great desk reference when you're working on a case. However, for quick and dirty work with most major disease states, the handbook is my go-to source. It pairs down all the excess and leaves you with tables and flowcharts that simplify disease state management as much as is reasonably possible. And yes, it will fit comfortably in a lab-coat pocket, so I imagine it will be joining me on my clinical rotations in the future.

Efficient and convenient source of information
I came back to change my original review and rating. Initially, I gave this 3-stars because I didn't realize the potential this book had to be a personal database, one which won't require an internet connection or a password. Months after posting this review, I discovered the iPhone kindle app, and once I started using that to open this handbook, it changed everything. Now, whenever I need to find information quickly, this is the first resource I go to. It's easy to search for specific disease states, treatments, meds, side effects, etc ... My initial review said that, "This book is helpful in guiding through diagnosis and treatment options, but it's just that, helpful. You still have to do additional research for precise details for most disease states." -- Now, I just wanted to share that it could be more than guidance, having it on my phone makes it very convenient for simply looking up any information you need when you need it.

Pulls out the most important points from the full-length version
This book condenses the most important points from the Dipiro full length edition into a short chapter that you can read in 20 minutes are less. I have compared the handbook to the full length version and while I appreciated all of the details provided in the longer version the handbook did a great job of pulling out the key points. Pulmonary Hypertension is a topic that I studied that was not in the handbook. The handbook is also much smaller than you might think, it is very portable and similar in size to a fat novel. I would recommend this book for pharmacy students! This is something students like to bring on rotations.

Standard of practice - easier to carry
This has been referenced by me in a PharmD program FAR more often than the actual Pharmacotherapy text. It is small enough to be portable, and the information is useful as the standard of practice. The only reason it gets 4 stars is that some information is only available in the actual text (obviously). Only twice in the months have I referenced this book have I had to look toward the bigger book.WELL worth the price and the convenience. It condenses the readings without cutting out necessary content.

Very very handy
Currently finishing up pharmacotherapy I (Psychiatry), and i couldn't have asked for a better book. Compared to the big text, this book offers straight to the point algorithms to follow and quick hits on what you need to know. I find myself reading this book more and more as i progress. Glad i bought it, and i will recommend it to any pharmacy student

He loves it!
I bought this book at my fiance's request for him. He is a pharmacist and it seems like I see him reading it every single day now. Curious, I thumbed through it and found it incredibly well organized and full of useful information. He says it's a great way to brush up on little details and a quick reference.

Better than the Full Book
This is a convenient, condensed handbook of the famous Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic approach. Focusing less on the patho, and more on the therapeutics, this book is geared less toward the student, and more towards the practitioner. The Dipiro text remains one of the most important textbooks for pharmacists and pharmacy students.

Excellent
This handbook is a summary of the bigger edition of Dipiro. It is an excellent book to have as a clinical pharmacist. I enjoy the book a lot and it is one of the books I like reading on pharmacotherapy.

Concise version of the main textbook
First off, this is meant to complement the main DiPiro textbook and is by no means meant to replace it. In a pinch, this gives you all the essentials you need to know about the condition, and mostly as a pharmacy student, the drugs that are needed to treat it. All the key diagrams and flow charts from the big book are in here as well, so you're getting a nice, no fluff summary. There are some conditions missing, but I doubt those were covered in the main textbook either. Would've like to see some stuff on oncology. Oh well, you can't have it all.

Great deal on the handbook.
Nicely formatted for the kindle app for iPad. This is a wealth of information for a fraction of the cost of the printed version.Keep in mind, this is the second to latest edition, and this is the handbook version, not the full textbook.
