Q: can I buy extra shelves?

I would also buy more shelves if made available. Could easily use 2 more myself. Gaps are far too large.

Q: Is this stackable if two are purchased?

Hi, the they are not stackable. Because the top panel can hold up to 20 lbs only, and the whole item is 28 lbs.

Q: What are finishing nails? I'll have to do this myself. Yikes.

The finishing nails only goes on the back of the book shelf to set up the background layer . The assembly is not complicated and is easy to follow, just follow the pictures slowly and that all.
