Will this unit accept the old style HD connector? I have old hard drives whose data i want to transfer into a newer and larger hard drive.

PATA drives would require you to also use a PATA to SATA adapter. Get that adapter instead (with USB on the other end) and use a free or trial program like EasUS Data Recovery Wizard, Apricorn Data Transfer Cable with included software, or something similar to transfer your old files to a new drive.

Can i clone my hd to a smaller capacity ssd? the storage used on the hd is smaller than the capacity of the ssd.

Will this be reliable if my work computer does not have usb 3.0? i'm using an upgraded dell optiplex 755 with old usb 2.0 ports.
