what is the difference between this product and the switch?

The switch controls a blind directly. this is a bridge, which can be connected to a Smart home system and used for things like automations and schedules and scenes/scenarios - eg if weather = xxx and time = yyy close.

Do I also need an Alexa or Google assistant in order for this to work?

No. The somfy device has its own independent app (so phone or tablet connected to same Wi-Fi network as device required). You could also download the Alexa app onto said device and use voice options via this. Hope this helps

Are you able to set schedules with this device? I'm seeing mixed reports.

If you use it in combination with Alexa, yes. I have created Alexa Routines which open the blinds at a specific time in the morning on weekdays, for example, and a separate one which opens them slightly later at weekends. I’m sure the same is possible with Google’s voice assistant.

Anyone got this working with Homebridge? If so, which plugin?

As I found out, the Connectivity kit doesn't work with HomeKit. You need the Tahoma Switch to do that. I complained to Tahoma, but the said their website is accurate. What their website lacks is a checklist comparing the features of the Connectivity kit with the Switch. Good luck!
