I'm pleased with my purchase. Review: Excellent Introduction to Elephants for Young Readers - Geared toward ages two to five, this is one of National Geographic’s “You Read, I Read” series. One page is designed for a parent or guardian to read aloud with a challenging world highlighted while the facing page is designed for the child to read and repeats the highlighted word. Each of the brief chapters concludes with a different interactive activity to reinforce comprehension and retention. This volume about elephants included a lot of information on their body parts, like their trunks and ears, their families, their needs, such as diet, sleep, and water, and their habitat. The text is engaging and age appropriate with the help of an older reader, and the numerous color photographs are phenomenal. The book mentions the declining elephant population and that organizations are trying to help but doesn’t provide details. National Geographic Readers: Elephants is a wonderful introduction to the natural history of elephants for young readers, and the illustrations will absolutely delight them.

Great Nature Series
The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the creatures, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the animal, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these books for my classroom. Highly recommended!

Great book!
My son is 3 and loves this book. I can see it being great for kids learning to read. Sentences are simple and has a fun "you read, I read" structure

Perfect for Your Elephant Fan!
I bought the National Geographic Elephant book for my young grandson who loves elephants. Before purchasing this book, I was constantly going online to find him photos to see them. This book tells interesting facts about elephants and has beautiful pictures. As I posted on another review, I also purchased the National Geographic plush elephant for him to play with and hold when I read him this book. I also love the library bound edition as I have purchased many in the past and know they hold up well to little hands. This book will be a perfect size for you little safari, zoo or elephant lover!

Interesting and good to read together
My son really finds the book interesting. At his reading level, it's too overwhelming for him to read the two sentences on his side of the page, and I notice that the words really are too advanced for him (Examples of words on the child's side of the page that I feel are more advanced are: grows, ears, leave, jungle, special, circle, breathe). I will have to try the first level of "pre-reader" to see if that's a better fit for him at this time. That being said, this book is wonderful and my son and his two younger siblings all find it very interesting and have learned a lot.

My nephew (who's 6) loves elephants and this was a great hit with him. The best part is each two page spread has a page for him to read and a page for an adult, so he can get involved. Will be buying more in the series.
