Do you need an olive on the other end?

Assuming you are connecting flexible hose to this 'other end' ( 'other end' is hardly a precise description ), then no you do not need an olive. The hose should be equipped with a rubber/fibre washer which seals against the squared end of the fitting. The end of the fitting, which is not squared, connects to the fixed copper piping and will indeed, need an olive, however, this olive, as with all compression fittings, is supplied with the fitting.
