Detailed and great artist bios
I liked this so much I bought the print version after getting it on Kindle.I am a freelance artist interested in illustrating children's books and this is one of a number of books I got on the topic. He is quite thorough, and it is good insight into the book making process in general. When I saw the title, all I was thinking about was how to illustrate for children in terms of the artwork and creative process. He gives real world insight into what an illustrator might run into on a professional level, deadlines, publishers with conditions, balancing the natural tendency for an artist's work to evolve versus the need for a children's book pictures to seem unified and consistent. Definitely wisdom that comes from a person with experience in the field. The book contains bios of other artists so you get a smorgasbord of insight into other styles and artists.Liked it so much after reading on Kindle, I ordered the print version for easier browsing and closer inspection of details in the included pictures. Thanks!

great for someone who have lot of time
I guess this is a book for study over a year or two. It is a great book with such a lot to learn from. But to complete every lesson or task you need some time. If you ever get to finish it. It is probably a lifetime study and learn from book. The illustrations are not that many or very interesting when thinking of the book as abook about pictures. But all in all this is a book I really, really like.

Practical, entertaining, and inspiring. I appreciated the suggested methods and the advice that each person will develop his or her unique process over time. Beautiful and varied illustrations along with inspiring profiles.

This book is disappointing. It has no information on ...
This book is disappointing. It has no information on how to format your story for submission, and very little else in terms of practical knowledge that can be applied to your craft. Most of the information in the book is general, and suggests at ideas without specific instruction on how those ideas can be functionally applied. If you are looking for a book that has practical, applicable information to guide you through the process of writing, illustrating, formatting, and finding an agent or publisher, this book is not for you.

Brilliant book
I love, love, love this book. It is much more than a book about illustrating children’s books it is about how to be a better artist, how to use your imagination and much more. It’s brilliant.

A real gem.
A real gem. Martin Salisbury's books are good, but this, in some ways, is better. It seems to fill in the gaps that Salisbury's books have missed. The cover design seems somewhat misleading, as if it is an old-fashioned book - when in fact it is right up to the present. Indispensable if you are studying this subject.
