I thought the lamp I had was big enough, but the bulb was still so huge, it touched the mesh of the enclosure at the top of the tank. And it burnt right through it. Smelled god awful. Worked well on the dimmer switch though, it may have been a good purchase if I had a gigantic lamp for it to fit in.

Stopped working after three days
Was hoping to like the bulb but after three days it stopped working. As I had bought it after replacing a bulb I had on hand, I did not use this one for about six months so it is well outside the return time. Disappointed that it did not work and no way to receive refund.

Bulb smoked up inside.
Decided to get this bulb for my turtles since the bulb they came with just burnt out.The new bulb only lasted 4 seconds. Once i flipped the switch it started to smoke inside.

Used it for 48 hours. In a good outlet. On a timer. Bulb blew out. Lost ~$55.00.
