I keep coming back
OVERALL: I have used these walking shoes for a few weeks before writing this review which I hope you will find useful and overall I am very happy with them. I have used Merrell walking shoes for years and have just changed from the Moab 2. I find that I can walk all day long in Merrell shoes I think that the footbed shape that Merrell use suits my foot shape. I have used these Moab 3’s for walking on pavements and fields in dry and rainy conditions and they have so-far performed really well and kept my feet dry. SIZING: I usually buy UK size 10s for my walking shoes and tried these shoes on in size 10 with some walking socks and found them to be just a little too short. The shop I was in did not have the 10.5s in stock so I ordered them from Amazon instead. Having received these in size 10.5, I am happy with the sizing. The Amazon listing does not seem to include the Euro sizing but I can confirm as per the attached picture of the side of the box that these UK 10.5s are also marked Euro size 45, USA size 11 and 29cm. LIFE: These Moab3 shoes have a different Vibram sole to the Moab 2s and perhaps because they are new they seem to be a little stiffer which I think is a good thing for a walking shoe. I usually only have to change my Merrell shoes because they have become worn out. Usually the sole has worn out but being so comfortable I am reluctant to change until something else starts to fail. I did have a couple of pairs where after the soles had worn the upper started to separate from the sole which was the final decision making point to change to a new pair. I keep on buying Merrell shoes so I am happy with the comfort/price/life equation. WATERPROOFING There is a GTX and non GTX version of the Moab 3 and as far as I can tell the difference is that the GTX have a layer of Goretex waterproofing but the non GTX versions do not have this layer which makes them more breathable. With previous Merrells I have found that initially the waterproofing is very good but when they have been used for a while and are nearing the end of their life, the waterproofing does seem to fail so time will tell how long the waterproofing works with these Moab 3.

The best of the best!
A superb pair of hiking trainers - stylish, crafted, comfortable and classy. Went one size up from shoe size to give extra space for my toes. As many reviews have implied - quality comes at a cost and you get what you pay for. By far the nicest looking kit for hiking and I can feel smug that my feet will stay dry!

Comfortable from the off - see review regarding waterproofing
Very comfortable from the word go. They definitely come up small in size so I am glad I read the reviews and ordered a 1/2 size larger than normal; 10.5 instead of 10 and they are a good fit. The Vibram sole is a huge benefit. I can't speak for the waterproofness yet but will update later. If they are I will update to a 5* **UPDATE** My only criticism of these shoes is that they do not appear to have been treated with water repellant on the outside and rely solely on the Goretex membrane. The problem is that when the outers get saturated the shoes lose breathability and your feet get damp through sweat or the water seeps through a little. I will apply water repellant to mine and would do so before use if I bought the same again. In spite of this They are good and very comfortable shoes..

Comfort, Grip, and Built to Last
Daily rural walker (1.5 to 2 hours) – great fit (half sizes), comfy, light, with a Vibram sole that grips on all surfaces. Laces are excellent, olive colour looks great. Last pair lasted four years of heavy use – hoping these do the same

Merrell Moab 3 GTX
I do not get why you must pay extra to have a waterproof hiking shoe, the nature of hiking is that you should expect water. However if you want a waterproof Merrell, then you must pay extra to have the Goretex membrane. That said they are a fantastic shoe, worn a few times now, and it's been perfect out of the box. The shoe is comfortable and keeps my feet warm and dry in all weathers. Not used yet in summer. Not sure what people mean that its sized small. I ordered my usual size and it fitted perfect.
