Pitcher AND Filter is A+!
I've had this pitcher for 9 months now & it still works wonderfully! The Brita filter lasted 7-8 months for one person using average 1 & 1/2 a day (I know, I should be drinking more). The color indicator never seemed to turn yellow, but the green seemed to flash slower, then one day it was flashing red - and there was a difference in taste. So maybe be ready with another filter instead of waiting to buy one until you see the yellow. I did buy a knockoff brand filter replacement & there's enough of a difference in taste (& most likely longevity) that I am DEFINITELY staying with the BRITA brand filter from now on.FYI - the Brita filter did need to be 'burped' about 3 times toward the beginning (water was not percolating through, so I just ran my finger across the top of the filter to get it going) - & now that I've had the lower quality knockoff that has not needed burping, I consider that a GOOD quality instead of bad. Also, I'm glad I waited this long to give a review because in the beginning, I was wondering how the plastic was going to hold up & it has! The hard plastic 'felt' like it would be more brittle, so I tried to be careful not to bang it pulling it out of the fridge etc. But it HAS happened enough times & I've inspected it, for me to realize that it's durable! I also noticed that it's AIRTIGHT - not sure if that's the word for it - but it never produced any little mold spots INSIDE the pitcher! When I did see one or two, they formed at the very top edge where tap water droplets strayed while filling it. When I noticed that, I learned from my lesson & made sure to have the pitcher open & ready to be filled directly instead of allowing any stray water droplets to happen. As per instructions, I also don't leave the flip top open while it's percolating. I close it then open again to fill to fill line (the little protrusion) a 2nd time. I've also noticed to be careful not to touch the pour spout on anything since tiny mold spots can occur there. Otherwise, I've left it in the fridge without the need to clean it out (no signs or smells of bacteria inside) all those months. There is ONE thing that I would like for them to change in the design, but it's not bad enough to take off a star. The flip top, although it opens easily, also CLOSES too easily. I flip it with my thumb while holding the handle, but then when I barely move my thumb it hits it closed again. I hate when that happens because then the tap water splashes across the top between the pitcher & filter top or the spout to potentially produce tiny mold spots. I have to constantly remind myself to be careful flipping the top & totally take my hands away & have the tap placed squarely over the open area before turning on the water. There's enough room between faucet & pitcher that I can flip it closed again right away for it to percolate. I LOVE that the percolating process doesn't take too long either! Although it does percolate faster with the knockoff filter - another sign the knockoff doesn't work as well.

Great Filtered Water in a Convenient Pitcher
This Brita water filter pitcher is a fantastic way to improve the taste and quality of your tap water. I've been really pleased with its performance. The water tastes noticeably cleaner and fresher after filtering, and it's reassuring to know that the Elite filter is reducing 99% of lead and other contaminants. The claim of the filter lasting 6 months or 120 gallons is a great feature, meaning less frequent replacements. The 6-cup capacity is a good size for my needs – it doesn't take up too much space in the fridge but holds enough water that I'm not constantly refilling it. The white, BPA-free pitcher feels sturdy and the design is practical and easy to use. Filling is simple, and the filtered water dispenses smoothly. If you're looking for an effective and easy-to-use water filter pitcher, this Brita model is a solid choice. It provides great tasting water and the long-lasting filter is a real plus.

An Alternative to Purchasing Water at the Airport
Tired of purchasing water during trips when flying? The convenience factor is using the same filter as our home 10-cup Brita pitcher (besides the cost of water at multiple airports far exceeds that of a filter when traveling with a companion). Although airport water-bottle filling stations are more prevalent, some have questioned their quality (ever see a test-result report?). Also we usually purchase water after checking into a hotel but no more. (Btw, we are planning to use it on a cruise in the near future - the primary reason for this purchase because cruise beverage plans are so expensive). WARNING: if you decide to use the Brita pitcher only at your destination and you’ve placed it in your checked bag, carry the water filter in your carry on bag. Its unusual shape may make it subject to additional scrutiny.

I like Brita pitchers however when I bought this one I thought it was bigger..
I have been using brita water pitchers for years. I have 8 pitchers and 2 tanks. I used them where I lived before because the city always seemed to be adding too much chlorine to our water and you could smell it as well as taste it. I started using them then. After passing the water one time through a pitcher I noticed it didn't tast as bad so started adding two pitchers and that was better. That did the trick for me. I moved down to TN about 8 years ago and not only did I tast and smell chlorine but also a musty smell and other bad tastes. I also had a white dish rack on my counter for drying dished you wash by hand and you can see the dirt the water leaves behind. My kitchen faucets have inline filters on them but they are not doing the job. My refrigerator also has a filter on it and is doing a pretty good job as long as I use new ones here and there. I now have 4 brita pitchers 10 capers and a 27 cup tank which I fill several times a day for our cooking and drinking needs. I also do the same in our basement family room. That being said brita only claims to filter certain things in the water so I also use other make of filters along with brita's filters like some are made with coconut and other stuff that really work well. Anyway I no longer smell or tast that bad stuff in my drinking water any more. I rotate the filters where the first one I use for 2 months the next in line for 3 months next one for 6 months next 6 also and the tank one is changed once a year. Yes they say change more often but where I use so many this works for me and they are not that cheap but it's up to you on their longevity. Don't think your bottle water is any better most of those company just filter city or town water or river water and treat it with chlorine and cyanied to kill germs and bacteria and some of these companies have been found to have very high levels of cyanide in their bottled water. I remember reading that Aquafina had the highest levels of all the bottle waters tested that year so stand your guard filter your water.
