A Fossilizer and a G2 character join the Wreckers
In much the same vein as the βGolden Disc Collectionβ, the βWreck βn Rule Collectionβ is a subline from this yearβs mainline of toys/figures. The Wreckers, a special forces team of Autobots, were conceived in the British version of the Marvel Transformers comic in the epic story βTarget 2006β, which tied into the 1986 film. Theyβve been a popular part of the franchise ever since, even eventually receiving their own faction insignia (sported on these figures).Over various continuities the members of the Wreckers have changed and as this collection is part of the βLegacyβ range it differs somewhat from the original comic line up. This boxset, therefore, consists of a re-imagined G2 character and a brand new one inspired by the previous yearβs βKingdomβ toy line.Apart from a new head sculpt, Leadfoot is a repaint of the βKingdomβ version of Mirage that was part of the βBattle Across Time Collectionβ. The redeco and both modes are a fairly good representation of his original G2 toy.The figure is a bit of a mixed bag. Both modes look fairly good. The backs of the legs are messy, but they arenβt the worst. However, the transformation is hideous, especially in terms of the legs/front section of the vehicle. Itβs awkward, doesnβt fit together very well and just not enjoyable to perform. There are also parts that feel quite flimsy and, handling it, the plastic feels cheap and light. Itβs a shame because the blue paint applied has a metallic sheen that looks quite classy.Leadfoot comes with two well sculpted guns, one of which possesses a detachable missile component. Unfortunately, thereβs no way to mount it on the shoulder in that traditional Mirage style. He doesnβt come with the propeller weapon that accompanied the original toy. Whether this is a good or bad thing depends upon your perspective as it was a weapon that never suited him but is associated with the character.Masterdominus, despite his overly grandiose and somewhat silly name, is, perhaps, the more interesting figure considering that he is a new character created for this collection and adds another Fossilizer to the Transformer ranks. He is a reasonably extensive reworking of βKingdomβ Ractonite that transforms into a skeletal, and impressive looking, mastodon. The plastic feels like it is high quality, unlike Leadfoot. The red highlights on the ribcage are a nice touch that suggests the presence of tissue and the little added sections that extend the legs make him considerably taller than his mould mates, Ractonite and Tricranius, adding to a different look from them.Unfortunately, though, some of his joints are quite loose and the heavy, and impressive looking, head is easily displaced.Like the other Fossilizers his robot mode is all gangly and malformed, and unlikely to stand up very well. The use of the mastodon tusks as an arm mounted weapon look good, even though they can easily overbalance the figure.Of course, to really utilise a Fossilizer you need a more traditional Transformer. It is great, therefore, that this is a two pack that offers both, providing some bonus interaction. However, the suggested configuration for βweaponizingβ Leadfoot looks fairly poor in comparison to other Fossilizers and Leadfoot is far from the best figure for ports. The set also comes with part of the Wrecker hammer. As this piece is the base/stand for the hammer you will just be folding together a rather uninteresting cardboard box.
