Q: How long does this item usually last?

Mine just broke. Handle snapped off. I used to regularly for 2 years. I'm disappointed it broke in the way in that did, and I feel it shouldn't have, but will probably buy again simply because I don't of a good alternative.

Q: How to remove the picked up lint or let hair from the brush ?

I either just remove it from the brush itself or find a smooth fabric pillowcase, t-shirt and reverse the direction I use the brush so the lint comes off.

Q: Does this work well to remove dog hair?

That is what I use it for. Have three mini aussies in the home and they have their own bed. I use this and it gets hair and dirt. I like it better than the ones that have the case to remove the hair. They broke on me. This i just use my fingers to push the hair off. Then rinse it in water to get the dirt off and it is ready to go again. I use it on my comforter and the one the dogs lay on. Works in pillows as well.

Q: Can brush simply be rinsed off under water? Would be using mainly to remove dust from clothing. Not clear if it can get wet or not.

I typically wipe my hand in the opposite direction to move all the pet hair to one side and pull it off with my fingers and put in the trash. But for just dust I recommend using a vacuum hose to clean it. Or you can smack it against your hand over the garbage or outside? You can certainly wash it with water periodically but would have to fully dry out before using again.
