Well designed for easy setup and takedown
A GREAT product. Super easy to setup. It fits nicely over the back of a 1500 RAM with extra high cap. My cap side windows have opening knobs, and the shelter's upper tie down straps are perfectly placed to wrap around those knobs. The pole sheaths and clips so far have been very strong. I was worried that the slope of my cap (slightly convex and slopes toward the back of the cap) would allow rain under the top of the shelter and drip down, but it seals up nicely and so far no leaks in moderate rain. The cap back window rests comfortably against the top of the inside of the shelter, and does not seem in danger of ripping or tearing it. There is enough room under the shelter, with tailgate down and side flaps flush against the ground, for camp chair, camp table, and large cooler, with room to move between. And a wonderful bonus: the pack bag is big enough to accommodate the shelter even when sloppily rolled up. I don't have to fight to get this thing rolled up perfectly to get it to fit in the bag. I am a Kelty fan, and this is another well designed product.

Perfect for Overlanding in rain, over the truck tailgate.
Perfect for Overlanding in rain, over the truck tailgate. 4 days in Death Valley, lots of rain. Saw Lake Manly. Worked great for coffee and cooking on the tailgate in the rain. I have rollup bed cover, no bed rack. The arch worked perfect resting right on truck bed rails. Attached to wheels. Could still stand up and cook, I'm 6 foot. I have trekking poles I could use to raise it but didn't have to use them. We had 2 chairs underneath. Warm dry n cozy for 2-4 max inside with butane stove going. Love window. Seal seamed, dry. Packs up easy, light n small like a tent. Well made, looks great. Easy setup with 2 people, fine with one. Did great in the wind and rain. We used nail pegs but stakes are actually nice n beefy. Love the versatility, awning or shelter. We had 3 different Kelty products attached to 3 different rigs in our group, all worked well in heavy downpours. The 2 toggles for rolling up sides are really tight but work. Whish it had 2 per side. Absolutely love this thing for my tailgate coffee bar in the morning. Its a keeper.

Premium Build in a Compact Package
The Kelty Highroads is exactly what I wanted: compact enough to stash anywhere in the van, but sturdy and premium when deployed. Setup is quick and easy, and the canvas + aluminum frame feel legit high quality. Packing it back up neatly takes a bit more thought, but it’s absolutely worth it for how small it stores and how solid it feels. Perfect for weekend van andventures and overlanding.

Shade/ Shelter & Privacy always in the car, always ready to go!
Quick easy way to obtain shelter and privacy. Set up and take down take a few minutes. Lots of versatility in the way you can set it up and use it. Shelter opens up to let a lot of air flow through while providing shade. Stable in the wind when using guy-lines. The only draw back that I found is that it can get a bit buggy inside the tent during certain times of the year. I use the FLEXTAIL EVO REPELLER - 3-in-1 Outdoor Mosquito Repeller Lantern to mitigate the bugs.

Provides good shade. Your need extra gear when winds are strong and you need to bring a floor.
I have used the Kelty Highroads Overlanding Shelter so far only 4 days at 2 different locations in the Primitive area of the Grand Canyon north rim. The 1st night it was subjected to gale force wind within 20 feet of the actual Grand Canyon rim. The tent could not be effectively staked down due to the rocky ground so I utilized some rocks on just one of the tabs whose stake tended to pull out of the ground more frequently than the other stakes. I learned to use large rocks to hold down the tabs for the other days at another location in the primitive area. I had to collapse the tent and shut parts of it inside my car door in the middle of the first night to keep it from sailing over the rim into the Grand Canyon. Since then I have purchased 4 Kelty "sand" stakes. One of the aluminum poles got bent slightly that 1st night but otherwise the tent was usable during the following nights in a less windy location in the primitive area (but it was still windy). Since I have a large Cargo box in my hitch, I use the tent along the side of my SUV rather than over the back hatch. It works on the side but I have to constantly pick up the tent ceiling that leans agains the car to keep it out of the door jamb because the ties are located wider than my car rack is long (there are ties for both the wheels (distant ones not the closest) and for the car roof rack). My main complaint is the lack of a tent floor which I believe contributes to its tendecy to be a sail in strong wind. Other than this lack of floor, it is serving its purpose and providing shade. I don't know yet how it will do in the rain and snow. I imagine that I will be testing it out in the snow right after the New Year's holiday in a few of the national parks in southern Utah. I just bought some interlocking rubber "puzzle" mats in addition to a cloth camping mat that I will try out in my next trip to utilize as a floor for the shelter. I will amend my review if I have new information after that trip.

Well constructed, easy to use, priced right
Easy to set up and didn’t scratch the paint. Felt very well put together. The fabric is a nice material. The stitching was nice. It went together in about 20 minutes for my first time taking my time, from unzipping the bag to having it mounted on the rear of my Bronco. I’m sure I could get everything done in 5-10 minutes rushing. It gave me a lot of space inside for a small table and several chairs. Priced right and nice features.

Kelty Highroads- Excellent tent/canopy/suntoom
Kelty highroads canopy/tent/awning/sunroom far exceeded expectations. Buy the Highroads-the thicker material, aluminum poles and pocket are worth the extra money. Even the stakes are good quality. My wife found this for our 7x12 6’6” tall enclosed trailer with a ramp door. It fit perfectly. It is like it was custom made for this application. I can even open and close the ramp door. Setup took 5 minutes to setup and another 5 minutes to figure out how to attach it to the trailer. I added some cup hooks to make it really easy to setup the next time. As an added bonus it works with my wife’s Bronco and my F150.

Couldn't love this more. One of my best overlanding purchases ever!

Bought this for my daughter's Westfalia. It adds a great deal of extra room, and after some adjustments, fits the van very well. No rain yet, but I am sure it will come in handy during less pleasant days.
