We sent the Survivor kit to our grandchildren to provide activities to do after elearning. We thought this kit would give them additional skills as they camp often with their parents. They attend a STEM school and enjoy experiments. Our grandson learned to start a fire using the magnifying glass. His dad told him it wouldn’t work, but he soon had a shoulder! Next, he had his older sister doing it to engrave a message in a medallion of wood. Next he made the sundial and a compass. They are parceling our the activities so they don’t do all experiments too fast. We will be ordering other kits to help them pass time while they stay safe at home.

My kids are having a blast with this kit! It is the perfect summer staple when you have to beat the heat and stay inside. My 8-year-old had no problem figuring out most of the experiments on his own...my hubby helped him with a few and they had no issues at all. Now my son doesn't stop with the questions and sharing of the activities. He has been taking them everywhere with him and showing anyone who will listen. His favorite is the piggy bank activity. He has my daughter completely baffled and excited. Now she wants her own kit!

Update: the company promptly sent a replacement that came in excellent condition. The item is a gift and was received with excitement. The contents are a bit jumbled, so it’s hard for a kid to understand what it is right away, but the parents were eager to do the activities with the kids and share their optical illusion fascination. Original: Tin box was deformed, and not properly sealed. I will request a replacement if possible.

I purchased this for my 6 year old son because he is so curious about optical illusions. He was so excited when I pulled this out as a surprise. The experiments are fun and easy to do. As we would go through an experiment my son would get excited about the optical illusion and ask questions. The book explains how the optical illusion occurs and why you see what you are seeing. I love that it has a sturdy metal box that holds everything needed for the experiments. The instruction book is colorful with easy to follow directions. This is fun and educational at the same time.

We were looking for something educational to do this summer and found this kit. It has been a lot of fun going through the experiment book and choosing activities with my 8yo. We are also getting a chance to teach him about safety and are preparing for our next camping trip! Just a head up, there are some standard household items (paper, aluminum foil, etc.) that are not included, but all of the "science" items and instructions are in there!

My son loves anything to do with science! This was a lot of fun for him/us! So many experiments in this box! It happened to arrive as we were leaving the house and the kids had a babysitter. When we got home they had completed several of the experiments and talking about how much fun they had and what they learned! So awesome!

So cheaply made the experiments are undoable. For example with the color disc experiment you cannot spin the flimsy cardboard top fast enough to get the desired effect without the whole thing crashing or falling apart. Avoid at all costs. Total junk. Total disappointment. Total let down for my six hear old, I have noticed most, if not all of these kits are incomplete. You have to provide most of the required elements. Total disaster,

My afilhada has yet to use this, but I purchased it for her, a 5.5 year-old, to use in conjunction with her forest treks with her parents. When the product arrived, I was surprised to see the age ranges displayed on the product listing (side: ages 6-99; front: "suitable for children older than 3 years old") had been amended with a sticker stating the product is "Not suitable for children under 8 years." I checked with her parents and they okayed the gift, since it was always intended to be used with their supervision, in any case, but all the same; heads up, because the company selling this seems to have amended the appropriate age group for this product, but has not indicated as much on the product listing. 2 stars not for content, because I don't know how it'll work, but for the age discrepancy. It was fine in this case, but might not have been, and I would have been out one gift for a cool kid.
