Royal Robbins Women's Discovery II Skirt

Comfortable and lightweight!

I’m a Royal Robbins skirt enthusiast and have collected 6 so far, using them for hiking, gardening, and various other outdoor activities that are made easier and more pleasant with a lightweight quick drying skirt that stretches and has plenty of useful pockets. It doesn’t hurt that wrinkles fall out easily as well. Having said that, I find it unfortunate that the discovery II skirt design was made without the same number of robust pockets. It has 2, which sounds reasonable until you try to use them. Both are small,(you won’t be carrying your cell phone), and stiffly zippered, with tiny pull tabs that take two handsto manage. This is especially ridiculous when trying to open the horizontal pocket located close to the skirt hem, the other is vertical and located on the skirt side below hip level. In addition, the pockets themselves are actually free floating mesh underneath the skirt, so you should check their integrity before entrusting anything valuable to them. To sum it up, the discovery skirts are still very comfortable light weight skirts that make outdoor and travel activities easier to do in a skirt; and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and top it is paired with. On me, 5’3”, 120 lbs., a size 6 is a bit loose, but fits just way I like, sitting right at my hip bones, and coming about an inch below my knees.

I bought one of these several years ago- still going strong and I get SO many compliments. I decided to get one in black last week. Prana has changed the design slightly with the pockets. The reason for the 3 stars is that today, I wore it for the first time, tried to open one of the zippered pockets (just gently unzip, not manhandle) and the zipper became very stuck in the mesh fabric of the pocket. I have worked on it gently throughout the day, and just sat down with it (while not wearing) to try and free the zipper but to no avail. I’m very sad and also disappointed that the quality of the pocket is not up to par with my old skirt from 2015. I’ll still wear this one, just can’t use the pocket which was one of the things that drew me to this skirt.

I have three Royal Robbins skirts. Strangers approach to ask where I got it or tell me it is so cute. It is comfortable and one of the best things, it doesn't seem to stain even if I spill something greasy. The side zipped pocket easily holds my phone.

It looks nice but not very practical for hot summer weather because the material doesn't breathe and it is easy to get sweaty. The skirt also rotates around as I walk and needs to be constantly adjusted to the right position.
