Journey: Based on the True Story of OR7, the Most Famous Wolf in the West

Both of my children, age 8 and 12, were transfixed with this book. The author weaves such a story that you are immediately drawn into the tale of a lone wolf, Journey, and his trek across Oregon and California. We have purchased this book several times to give as gifts because we have found that children really enjoy the dual stories of Abby following Journey's story and also what it was like for Journey to be a lone wolf looking for a mate or a pack to join. This story would be fantastic to read aloud in a classroom as well, as it helps children start the dialogue about how our environment impacts the paths these animals must take in order to survive. I highly recommend this book and hope you get a chance to enjoy it too!

Beautifully illustrated; Written with an even hand. Story acknowledged and addresses that not all are thrilled that wolves are being reintroduced or should be protected animals. It does a great job of telling what a wolf's life is like - and little about their instincts and similarities to humans Part of what makes this book remarkable is it has parallel stories: the wolf's early life search for a place as an adult partnered with a little girl who hears on the media about a wolf in transit, wins a contest to name hime, and follows his travels on a map and chats with her parents. The reader is drawn into the story and can identify. This is the tale of a real wolf and his resentment ( and, finally a mate and cute little family. His route is shown on a map in the back. You could use this book to teach accommodating nature, conservation, map skills, controversy and how to talk politely about conflicting ideas, as well as individuals can be part of something bigger than themselves. Our 10 year old absolutely adores wolves. It’s their favorite animal of all time. This book is beautifully written and I can’t recommend it enough. Our child named two of their wolf stuffed animals after the wolves in this book. Depending on the age, your child might need some help reading it. Our 10 year old zipped right through it, but doesn’t get tired of re-reading it. Don’t think twice about buying this. Your child will love it (and so will you)!

8 yr. Old granddaughter enjoyed the journey of OR7. Great how the young girl followed him. I enjoyed reading it myself. It was age appropriate for an 8 yr. old.

Great book for the wolf-obsessed kid in your life. Interesting story that they will re-read.

The drawings are good, but I bought it for my 10 year old daughter who was not to happy to find out that it would be read in 10 minutes. She expected a proper book. The definition says it has 90 pages or so, but most pages have just a couple of sentences on them. La descripción dice que tiene 90 páginas, pero en la mayoría de ellas no hay mas que dos lineas de texto.

A wonderful, timely and well-researched piece of writing, beautifully balanced between wolf and child perspective. The illustrations also serve to draw the reader in. As an example of nature writing for children it is unsurpassed.

I love this book. Amazon didn't package it well though (recurring issue with books) and it arrived bent.
