Q: Amazon has 2 boxes from this manufacturer. The HFR2-SU3S2 ProRaid ,, and the HFR2-SU3S2 drive enclosure. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

There are two versions of the HFR2-SU3S2: ProRaid and ProBox. The former supports RAID in hardware while the latter does not. The ProRaid supports pretty much every form of RAID I can think of, including 0 (two types), 1, 3, 5, and 10. However, the throughput in RAID mode is 3 Gbps while non-RAID can run as fast as (if your disks can keep up) 6 Gbps. Some people prefer to have their operating system implement RAID, some prefer hardware RAID. With the HFR2-SU3S2, you can buy the product that meets your needs.

Q: Anyone has tested this unit with 6 TB hard drives?

I'm running 4 X 8TB drives with no problems.

Q: Can this device be hooked up directly to a Router instead of a PC?

No This is not a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, unless your router has a USB Port for external storage this will not work.

Q: What are the differences between the hf2-su31c and hf7-su31c models ? and is there proraid version of this ? (one that supports raid).

Hi, The only difference is the design of the exterior case. The main board and chipset are the same. This is NOT a raid version. The Raid version will be available in two month.

Economic and sleek SATA Caddy

Bought this to house 4x SATA drives from a broken PC. Really easy to assemble and place the drives, and no problems accessing them once seated. Intructions are fairly idiot-proof as well.

Simple Straightford BUT

The unit itself seems good BUT the inserts for 2.5" disk are special and expensive. Each is 11.00 odd so that needs to taken into account when you buy

Hot and bothered

Runs way too hot and fan noise is unbearable.Sitting on a wooden desk out of sunlight and well away from any heating source at idle WD 8TB Red NAS drives are cooking at over 60 Deg C.Very poor airflow design inside the chassis leads to the 80mm fan running like the radiator fan on a car on a hot dayOther than that, great transfer speeds even in RAID 1, easily achieves 150Mb/Sec for write when transferring large files. Then it gets hot and bothered after a couple of minutes and fan kicks in and never stops until powered down.

Not enough instructions for when a drive goes wrong

Instructions are note extremely clear and it's doesn't appear to have any ability to check for bad sectors before using a drive.
