Most useful savoury ingredient
Useful for anyone who likes savoury food, essential for anyone sensitive to onion or garlicAs with all asafoetida it is mixed with other ingredients so check strength in comparison to what you have used before, this is five times stronger that the supermarket brand I used before

Love this product.
I discovered the use of this product - Hing, whilst watching Indian cookery programme. I have to say it certainly enhances the taste of the food. I now use Hing in most of my Indian cooking.

Disgusted
Product seal was broken and foil lid was open. The sell by date had expired a year ago.

Good Product
Asafetida is a lovely touch to add to a curry. You only need a 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon at most but the results are gorgeous. It enhances a curry each and every time, to the point where I now know whether a pinch has been put in or not.

Good STRONG heeng
Good quality STRONG heeng, just as I wanted. The ones I used to buy in the grocery store were too weak and hardly any aroma or flavour.

Very pungent, use sparingly
((Please note, this product contains wheat starch but it seems misspelled on the label.))I make a lot of vegetarian and vegan curries but I’d never heard of Asafoetida before. I did a bit of research, looked up some recipes and was careful to know what I was using. There are two varieties of this spice: the pure ingredient and compounded (usually with a type of starch), which this is.There is a hard lid and a plastic seal on this tub, however, my seal was actually open slightly. I’m not sure if this happened in transit or when I opened it. As I received this though the vine programme, I decided to carry on and use the product. It has a very pungent smell and adds a bitter, garlic, taste to your dish. It’s hard to know quite how much to use as it’s compounded and most spices are usually pure.It also has a very unpleasant smell.I can’t quite get the levels right when adding this to my homemade pastes. It’s bitter and sour.I’ve never used this before, so I’m not sure how it compares to alternative products. It reminds me of garlic granules though. There is no use-by date but it does say to consume within 18 months of the manufacturing date, which is on the bottom. Mine arrived with about 13 months left, so a good amount of time.I got tummyache for the first time eating a homemade curry – it could be a coincidence but this spice was the only difference.

Transforms a curry
I've never used this spice before but I had a recipe that demanded it so I gave it a try and ever since have used it with every curry I've cooked. It's life-changing.
