As someone who knows they have a histamine problem this book was not that helpful. If you are completely unaware of your potential histamine intolerance then this book will likely be helpful for you. Half of the book covers Q and A so it may be helpful for you to see yourself in these scenarios or not (which may help you determine if you do have a histamine intolerance). If you do suspect that you have a histamine intolerance from reading the book then do not expect an intricate answer on how to deal with it as her answer for everything is to follow a histamine restricted diet.Where this book falls short for me and anyone who is new to histamine intolerance is that she does not provide any follow through on low histamine recipes. If your answer to everything is to follow a low histamine diet then the author should help the reader to start this process with at least 10 - 20 recipes. There is a shortage of low histamine cookbooks on the market and the fact that this author was a registered dietitian for 27 years and does not give any recipes for one to start blows my mind (especially since her answer to everything is to follow a low histamine diet). The author is knowledgeable on this subject and if you are looking to see if you potentially have histamine intolerance then this will be a good beginner book but if you are looking for a plan this book falls short there.

Thankful for this book!
The Beginner's Guide to Histamine Intolerance has offered an eye-opening glimpse into the possible source of baffling allergic-type reactions I've been bombarded with for years (severe headaches, racing heart, chest pain, hives, itchy face followed by acne flare-ups, indigestion, etc.). An array of symptoms that left multiple doctors perplexed and unable to make a diagnosis, mostly negative allergy tests, the lack of knowledgeable guidance, and exasperation with constant symptoms motivated me to become my own health advocate and delve into researching what could possibly be going awry inside my body. I'm so thankful I came across Dr. Janice Joneja's articles online and now this book, as her expertise offers valuable insight into the source of the symptoms that plague me, and offers hope that there is something I can do to help manage them. This book also inspired me to visit my doctor and request blood tests to check for underlying causes of excess histamine, so they can be treated appropriately if needed. For the first time in this long, exhausting, lonely journey, I finally feel like I've been pointed in the right direction to find answers and wellness! Thank you Dr. Joneja!!

Great Insight on Histamine Intolerance!!
Since starting Menopause (over two years ago) my histamine has been out of whack!! Since menopause I have had to go gluten free, dairy free and soy free as well as eating a low histamine diet. I have suffered from migraines, acid reflux, eczema and crazy periods for as long as I can remember. I believe all these issues could be linked to my histamine intolerance. When my histamine cup overflows, I experience severe flushed skin, an increase in my body temperature, headaches and severe sleep issues. This book covered all my connected issues with histamine. Unfortunately, b/c of my restricted diet, your diet isn’t as helpful to me b/c I cannot eat many of the suggested foods. My daughter was also recently diagnosed with histamine intolerance and I have shared your book with her as well.

Worth a try if your suffering with chronic hives it has made a drastic difference in my wife’s life
Has helped my wife considerably she had seen multiple doctors and dermatologist with a outbreak of unexplained hives after nearly driving her crazy she found this book has been following the recommendations on diet and it has cleared them up totally after months of doctoring with no luck. We even had a question about some recommendations in the book that didn’t seem clear to us she emailed the author Dr.Joneja and got a response in a day very kind, compassionate and informative. Would recommend this to any one that is suffering with chronic hives to give it a try. I may also add my wife has been a lacto vegetarian for 30+ years very health conscious she had to alter her diet drastically but the end result has been worth it. Thank You so very much,Mark A.

Good book
Great book however some of the info is outdated and now not accurate. For example it says plain coffee is allowed and since then they have found high histamines in coffee. Also resent studies have found that foods that contain gluten are high in histamines....the book doesn't discuss gluten at all. Overall still a great book. But definitely research for current info online.

Good primer, but not the last word.
Good place to start if you want to learn about controlling histamine in your body. I like that the author, Dr. Janice Jones, is a doctor and uses science-backed evidence to support her claims. But I don't think it's the last word on the subject. I've been following Yasmina Ykelenstam (The low-histamine chef) on her blog and on YouTube and really love her common sense approach to dealing with histamine and inflammation in the body. Been following the principles for a couple of months now and do feel a little better already.

A good start
The book gives more information than I've found online, however much of the information here and online seem to be contradicting on some food items making it difficult to know what to avoid and what may be safe. I guess each individual has to find out what works for them. This book gave a good base of information.

A fascinating introduction to histamine intolerance with lots of practical tips
As a parent of children with multiple food allergies and intolerances (who take daily antihistamines) I was keen to explore the science behind how we might get an additional load of histamine from our food. This book provides clearly written, easy to understand information about the symptoms of histamine intolerance; foods that contain high levels of histamine; the idea of us all having a set amount of histamine we may be able to tolerate; and what we can do if we think we have a problem.I found this a really helpful introduction to histamine intolerance which gave me lots of things to consider about my family's diet. The science is obviously fairly new in the area but I found the references to research articles very interesting. Whilst we haven't avoided all the foods suggested to be high in histamine, we have made some simple adjustments to our diet which seem to have had a positive impact. It was also interesting to learn that some of the natural therapies people use for gastrointestinal issues, such as probiotics and fermented foods, can be high in histamine and may provoke reactions in people with histamine intolerance - it provided a plausible explanation for the problems we have encountered with these foods and supplements. The questions and answers section was useful as it provided individually tailored analysis of specific health conditions - that gave some examples of how these issues might apply to different health conditions.I will be on the look out for a future edition of this book, as I am keen to learn how the science and understanding of this intriguing area evolves in the future.

A little disappointed.
A little disappointed that more than half this book is made up of “case studies” which seemed an old fashioned approach and completely irrelevant to me. I was looking for a comprehensive guide to histamine intolerance and of course a reliable list of low/high foods, along with a detailed guide as to how to manage the condition with supplements etc. Just felt it scratched the surface only.

How much histamine there is in food and how you can avoid such foods.
I bought this book to help me understand what histamine intolerance really means. It is a terrific book and has given me a lot more information I received from my doctor. I will use it as reference book from now on and I can refer back to it in an instant when I suffer any of the symptoms related to my particular problem. I’d recommend it to anyone to read it. It certainly helped me a lot.

Best in the market
I have waited for years for this book to be released in hard copy and not just on the Kindle/readable online only. The information is all the essentials you need to know explained and laid out in a clear and concise manner. A must-read for anyone with a histamine intolerance.

Good basic information on histamine intolerance but contradicts other books and websites.
I bought a few books on this topic when I discovered I could be suffering histamine intolerance. I found that even though this book does give some good basic information, it also seems to have the most contradictions to the advice given in other books and on the Internet. (Ie Bananas are safe to eat, but every where else say their high in histamine...) I found it just confused me further.
