A fun book
A well written and fun to read guide of Ukraine. Snippets of information covered many subjects about the country. A very enjoyable read!

Good Info
Pros: The book has a ton of great info about the culture and history of Ukraine. You will learn a lot even if you're familiar with the basics already.Cons: The book sometimes reads like a translation from another language. Occasionally it's hard to understand the meaning because of this. On the bright side, it feels like a translation from Ukrainian, so that's fun. It's also sometimes more like a list than a book--there doesn't seem to be a narrative throughline.Overall, if you're curious about Ukraine because of current events or something else, this is an accessible, convenient source of a lot of information. Much easier to read than a history textbook!

Horribly written or translated, & full of factual errors, beginning on the first page
This book is horribly written. It falsely claims on the first page that the Zaporizhian Sich was the first democracy in Europe, rather than the much older classical Athens. The Zaporizhian Sich didn’t even exist before the time when the Parliament of England and the parlements of France — the latter being law courts more than legislative bodies — were originally formed. This lie, or surpassingly ignorant statement (it must be one or the other), is seemingly representative of the book’s overall quality: it’s full of badly written, badly sourced nationalist myths, and many wild errors of judgment.
