Zep is my 'go to' for a clogged toilet. Might not work on first try ... or second ... even third ... BUT it eventually works and isn't as 'messy' or gross as using a snake. ~half bottle, 12 hour wait, HOT water chaser for 15 minutes ... flush *use when the house has multiple toilets because the clogged toilet will be unavailable **IF you need immediate results, use a snake or call a plumber

Worked well as described to clear a clog in my shower drain. Poured it in. Let it sit then followed with hot water. Clog dissolved. Very impressed with ease of use and how quickly it worked

I really wanted this product to work, but it fell short in every way. The quality feels cheap and the bottle itself was a headache—mine arrived slightly leaking, which left a strong chemical smell all over my cabinet. The instructions make it seem easy to use, but in practice it didn’t improve drainage at all, even after several tries. The smell while pouring it in is unpleasant and lingers far too long. For the bottle size and capacity, I expected at least some noticeable results, but the effectiveness just isn’t there. Sadly, this was a waste of money and time.

We have a creative drain run from our 2nd floor tub. Despite installing a drain "octopus" to prevent hair from entering the drain line, from time to time (a matter of weeks) the drain would slow and the tub would slowly fill up during a shower. I expect it was build up of hair conditioner and who knows what else type of moisturisers my GF uses. As a result I had ro run the snake through the drain line perhaps at 6 week intervals. I tried this Zep product to keep the drain clean. Much to my surprise, IT WORKS PERFECTLY. I just have to remember to use the product at monthly intervals or the drain begins to slow once again. Zep stuff is pretty trustworthy. I learned this as a purchasing manager tears ago. There stuff is not bargain priced, but it does exactly what it says it will. I was a little skeptical when I first tried this. It was a big bottle but on the flip side, it works and that bottle will lat me a very long time when used as directed. If you are having drain problems similar to mine, get this stuff, it works and isn't a caustic and/or environmentally harmful product.

Hasn't helped my drain so far. Additionally I had to look up how to use it as it isn't written anywhere on the bottle. Once I started using it I got used to how much I have to pour in the drain and I eyeball it now. Still working through the bottle but I don't know if this is a good product as it has not worked for me yet. I don't even notice a reduction of the biofilm in my pipes.

Our first purchase of Zep Drain Defense was then called Drain Care. We used it on a slow draining kitchen sink and it worked great. Fast forward to late 2024's stubborn clogged toilet. Plunged it, then snaked it, and realized the clog was much deeper in the system. Resorted to Drain Care. It worked overnight by pouring 8 oz. then flushing once and leaving the toilet alone. We used it two more nights in a row and the toilet ran as if new. Drain Care is no longer available but Drain Defense and Drain Care are basically the same enzyme-based product. We have since used it in all our sinks, drains, and toilets. This house is 25 years old as is the septic system. We have PVC in our plumbing and minerals in our well water. I would much rather use Drain Defense on a maintenance basis then resort to caustic acids. However, how well it works depends on either what is clogging your sink/drain or how extensive the clog. Zep makes other products suited to complete clogs or specific types of clogs. If you've never done any maintenance on your drains or the history is unknown, this may not help. The 6 hour window is due to the enzyme effectiveness-- leaving Drain Defense overnight or a week won't increase results. This product is probably best when you still have water draining.

Good quality and great for my plastic pipes since it is not corrosive. It provided better results than Draino for my metal pipes as well.

I don’t usually write reviews, but after battling my kitchen sink for days, I feel like I just won a war. Plungers? Useless. Every other drain cleaner I could find? Nope. Even my auger failed me. I was this close to calling a plumber, but I figured I’d take one last shot with this product. And guess what? It actually worked! Took a few rounds—my clog was determined—but I could see progress each time, my sink slowly admitting defeat. Now that my pipes are back in working order, I’m not taking any chances and ordered another bottle for monthly maintenance cause there is no way in hell I'm going through all that again.

This product does work but you need to use it as a maintenance product. My bathroom sink drain had next to no flow, but after six months of regular applications I have a clean drain. The toilet drain is not plugging as often and hopefully future applications will improve that. I do have a problem with Amazons pricing on this product and have used CT to cut the cost in half.

Did not work as advertised, waste of money.
