Excellent watch, excellent price, and a fine backlight!
I read a lot of reviews and spent time (far more than I should have!) deliberating which G shock to get. I do lot of walking/sporty stuff and want a watch that I wouldn't need to remove for a 4 month trip to Asia. I love the look of analogue/digital watches and the balance of aesthetics and functionality in this watch really won me over. It's important to note that the main gripe people have with this watch (and the thing I was most concerned about) is the LED light that illuminates the face. I NEEDED this watch to be usable in the dark so was prepared to return the watch in the event of the watch being 'unreadable', as some people have described it as being. I cannot emphasise this enough, THE LIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE. I am aware it's all down to personal preference, but I have absolutely no problem reading this watch - both the hands AND the digital screens - in the dark. Yes, it's not optimal - a light behind the screen would be more functional, but if you desperately require that feature you're better off buying the GD-100 or similar full digital G-shock anyway. The benefit of the light on this watch being where it is is that it can actually be used as a torch (albeit a weak one) in a pinch to illuminate a map or whatever you need to see in the dark. Also, remember that this single LED style of illumination is not exclusive to this watch - the £100+ analogue/digital G-shock watches also use this method of illumination. That's just how it is. Seriously - go try this on in a shop and see for yourself. The LED on this watch is BRIGHT and you will have no problem reading the watch in the dark. It also just looks awesome. It's just a makes the watch look really, REALLY cool. So in conclusion - the light is fine, don't let it put you off. The watch is extremely comfortable (I'm wearing it right now!) and not too big - but it's a G-shock, so obviously it's pretty big. Casio have managed to get the perfect balance of weight. It's sturdy and weighty enough that it doesn't feel cheap or plasticy, yet it's absolutely NOT what you would describe as a 'heavy' watch - indeed it is very light weight. Really can't say enough good things about this watch. At £55 (this watch is £110 on the high street!!) this watch is an absolute steal. Comes in a beautiful G-shock tin to boot. Absolutely brilliant, feature-full and practical watch. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Perfect For Active Adventure
As per the previous review, it's incredibly difficult to rate this watch any lower than 5 stars, providing that you buy it for the right reasons! I've owned the watch for a few weeks now and absolutely love it; the watch is sturdy, very, very well protected and looks the business. I bought this watch on a recommendation from my older brother because I wanted a watch that could withstand the elements when I go hiking and mountaineering, and also that I could wear when I go out on my mountain bike and to use in a pool abroad or the sea, etc. I own other watches that are fantastic and have claimed to be waterproof, but wanted something rugged and reliable and that wouldn't break or falter at the first bit of exposure to something more than a shower. The G-Shock brand has a fine reputation for this and does not disappoint. Couple the fact that it has some fantastic featues - I mean the stopwatch, alarm and timer are all handy tools when you're wanting a sports type watch, but the fact that you can set a second time (called World Time or WT) and at the press of two buttons simultaneously switch between the two is pretty cool. I recently took my watch with me to Ibiza and it was incredibly handy seeing at a glance what time it was back home. You can set up to 4 alarms at once which is handy if you need reminding of certain things, and also turn on or off a beeper to inform you when the hour passes. As someone else has said, the illumination light isn;t incredible, you can make out the time at close inspection but it isn't as good as it could be. But for me, that is literally it's only flaw. If you're looking for a rugged watch, one that will take a knock and shake it off with a laugh, I would suggest you invest!

Great looking watch
I really wanted to buy a G-Shock, have been looking at them for a long time but never bit the bullet. Decided I would get one as it was my birthday!! I looked at a lot of models on-line and eventually settled on this. I was not disappointed. It is a big watch, no question, but not so big that it looks hideous. It is a very sturdy watch but surprisingly light at the same time. The face of the watch is well protected and you would want to be very unlucky to scratch it. As previous reviews have said it is discreet, but still nice enough for people to comment. I find it very unusual with an all black finish but it is very attractive. I have had quite a few people comment on it so far, and at the price you cant go wrong. Setting up the time etc was no problem, although I had to refer to the manual on a few occasions and being male that wasnt easy!! I have also seen in previous reviews that the backlight does not really do its job. All I can add to that is that it shows the analogue time very clearly, but it is nigh on impossible to read the digital displays using the backlight. Not an issue for me though as the analogue time is fine. In short if you have been looking at this model for a while and considering buying it, just do it, you wont regret it, it really is a quality watch

Big And Chunky!
I'd been looking through the range of Casio G Shock watches for a while as I wanted something for everyday use that was sturdier and less prone to damage than my Tag and Luminox. This I thought was the best looking of the watches in the range and at a great price (about £75). I'd read the reviews about the size of it but thought I'd give it a go. When it arrived it seemed huge (I have quite narrow wrists) but I wore it for a couple of days and quickly got used to it (so much so that wearing my other watches now feel likely ladies dress watches in comparison) This watch is extremely well made and solid with a good chunky strap. It has 4 button (one for the light and the others for the various functions and features). The manual is small but very thick and comprehensively covers all the modes and settings in an easy to understand way. The digital time is set to match the analogue time exactly and it has always been a minor niggle of mine on previous watches where the two are out of sync. There is a very good calibration feature where the two are easily recalibrated if they fall out of sync for any reason. Another nice feature is the movement of the minute hand which clicks round at 20 second intervals to match the digital time (rather than moving slowly round as with other watches). A minor thing but a nice touch i thought. The digital display can be toggled between the date and the time. The date does follow the american format of month then day but as one is above the other rather than both side by side I've not found this to be a particular problem. As others have noted, the light is the big let down on the watch. The led is located at the 6 o'clock position and fails to illuminate the entire face. Also the red hour hand is also difficult to see in the yellow light. It is still readable but could be better. For some strange reason Casio have also added luminous paint to the number positions around the outside of the face which would be great but for the fact that the hour and minute hand are unpainted rendering it totally useless in the dark and meaning you need to use the light at night. Overall its a fantastic and eye catching watch for the price. 4 stars for me. Would've been 5 if not for the lighting issue and if it had been maybe 3/4 of the size it is.

Great watch if you like the dark style
Granted, the styling is very dark, but that's the point of the style - it's dark. As such, night-time viewing of most of the watch is going to be difficult, but NOT the hands (hour/minute); which is the most important part! The hands are white and, opposed to what many reviewers here have said, the light DOES illuminate them perfectly well. Anyone who says otherwise really needs to get their eye-sight checked. On the subject of light, no, this watch doesn't have Indi-glo like other G-Shocks (which my previous one had). My hunch is that because Indi-glo is only for the LCD display, and a separate LED is needed to illuminate the hands, Casio just haven't bothered with both (for cost or technical reasons). In any case, unless you really need to operate the timer/stopwatch in the pitch black (maybe you're in Special Forces), the LED is more than sufficient to illuminate the hands as previously mentioned. My advice there would be to buy wholly digital watch, and not a combi. On the whole, the watch looks very good, is nice and chunky, has numerous functions (various timezones including UTC) that I haven't even attempted to play with yet, and is generally a pleasure to wear. I also suspect that because of the perforations in the strap, where it can be fastened, it'll be a bit less "sweaty" than most other rubber straps when worn for long periods. If you're a fan of the dark style, this is definitely an excellent choice - especially for the price!

“Perfect Watch! Delayed Delivery, But No Regrets”.
I’m really happy with this watch — it’s a great product and definitely worth the money I spent. The color is exactly what I was hoping for, and the quality exceeded my expectations. Although the delivery took quite a long time (I ordered it on June 30th and received it after 5 weeks), it was well worth the wait. I was so excited when it finally arrived, and even more satisfied after unboxing it. Highly recommended!
