Small and mighty
Superb compact bluray/dvd player, starts up quickly and works a treat. Picture is good quality. Takes a little while to set up to WiFi if you want to use all it's network settings but can use without. Great value for money.

I have bought both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 and can categorically say they are both great blue ray players and are a credit to the quality of Sony. The player is quiet and loads discs quickly and efficiently. The interface is clean and simple to use and works well with the remote. The main Apps include Amazon, Netflix, BBCiplayer and Sonys own App which allows you to play certain ps3 games. On the BDP 3700 the wifi works well and connected without any issues. There are better ( and far more expensive) players out there, but for a standard smart blue ray player which is capable of Hi Definition 1180p then this is a fantastic buy. Both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 have DVD upscaling which means the player improves the quality of your standard definition dvds I’ve read reviews saying this blu ray player does not have an AMAZON APP. Both of my players do, I have provided a photo to assure you it does.

Good entry level unit
My first Smart player, enjoying the new features but it's very temperamental. Couple of times the background main screen draws, but non of the icons are loaded, switch off and on again. Couple of times 'SSL can't verify certificate' opening YouTube App then blank screen, switch off and on again. Quite often apps won't load content even though the internet is up and good speed, most of the time turning off and on again fixes this. Had a range of other errors I've forgotten about, and the fix was... yup you guessed, off and on. The remote is really good for getting the signal to the unit, you have to try to obscure the IR led, otherwise just press buttons like it's a RF. Tactile feedback is lacking for the centre button, often find myself pressing the down arrow. The blu-ray player does whine intermittently, which can be annoying during quieter scenes, overall I like the unit, and it's short comings are acceptable for the price ---- Update ----- Had a variety of errors about the 'app being too large', 'bandwidth too low', certain menus being inaccessible or very slow to load and those noted above - all of which cleared up after resetting to factory defaults. So far I've only had to do this the once, it does mean re-linking the accounts for apps, but not a major hassle. ---- Update 2 ---- Nearly two years on, working fine but couple of points worth mentioning. Previous issue with spurious error messages and connectivity issues have all cleared up completely since having the house/telegraph cable replaced. Whilst the speed was high, the error rates (data gets resent) were also high and disconnects frequent. The unit really doesn't like losing internet connection, either during or between uses. I'm not sure if mine is faulty in some way, or if it's just bad design. The disc player always spins the disc if one is present. So you'll have to remove it while using an app such as YouTube or Prime Video. Generally it's not loud enough to be annoying, but worth noting.

Nice Surprise!
I had been using my old faithful for years. It started to play up and eventually died on me. So I bought this to replace and was a bit taken aback when it arrived, as it is SO much smaller than my old one! Nevertheless, it is a super little machine! I was utterly stunned at how much better the picture quality was! Never thought that possible! Its not quite as nicely finished as my old one was, but the positivity of the controls and the quality of delivery more than makes up for that. The remote IS very tiny, as others have said. Personally, I don't find that a particular problem, but bear it in mind if you have problems with small buttons or eyesight issues.

Works out of the box
I purchased this to replace an aged Samsung bluray player. It was easy to set up and works well with both dvd and bluray discs. I have not bothered setting up WiFi as I have all the apps I need on the TV. I'm still stunned at how small it is and the quality of movie play back. I'm so impressed I'm ordering another one for my craft room

AWFUL! This DVD Player seriously damages SONY's reputation
I bought this DVD player because it was inexpensive, and yet made by a great brand: SONY. At first, all was well. DVD and Blu Ray Discs worked fine. Easy to configure and link to my broadband router-modem for online services such as BBCiPlayer. I then began to find difficulties with this item: 1. I wanted to use the built-in YouTube app. The pictures/video played fine, but no sound/audio. Sony and online forums suggested many (and incresaingly complex) "fixes", but none ever worked. 2. The unit has a USB drive. Same problem as above - pictures, but no sound - when playing videos on any USB drive. Again, I asked Sony and asked in online forums, I used every conceivably CODEC and file format, and finally gave up. 3. The last straw was when I could no longer even open/eject DVD or Blu Ray discs. A message appeared saying that the "CHILD LOCK" was on. It was not. Once again, I tried all sorts of fixes recommended by Sony and online forums. No success. In the process of trying to find a fix, I discover thet this fault is a common one for this SONY DVD Player. In summary: It's cheap but defnately NOT cheerful. Go for another brand - don't get fooled by the normaly great reputation of SONY.

Good basic little bluray player. Some literature had claimed this model was multi-zoned and was purchased under this assumption (which it is not)
