These say UPVC windows, but can they be used on standard wooden windows?

We have modern wooden frames in our newish house. There is a channel that runs along the bottom/edge of the window. If you don't have a channel, they won't fit.

This steel is not corrosion resistant. What protects it from rusting on the window?

nothing protects it as such--however the design means it is fitted inside(protected from rain etc)hence no damage from weather etc?

It seems like it should work, but it stops the window from fully shutting as it hits the frame, I'm I doing something wrong?

Did you screw it inside the window correctly? If it’s only not shutting due to a few millimetres then I expect you have fitted correctly and may need a ‘UPVC run up riser/window riser’ you may actually find you already have one that you can slide along the frame and move closer to the new latch. This should ease the window slightly over the new latch

Can these be used on metal frames

I successfully fitted two sets to different metal framed windows, but: 1. Supplied screws supplied are unsuitable for metal, so use short self tapping ones into drilled pilot holes (make sure they don't hit the edge of the window unit inside the frame!). Rivets don't seat properly as restrictor holes are countersunk. 2. Some types of metal window don't have grooves to locate the restrictor into, so careful measurement is required to achieve a good installation.
