Q: Is this the same as the Boss therm 242rf

I have never seen or used the Boss therm 242rf so I am afraid I don't know the answer.

As others state instruction come with it. Basically the receiver is wired to the boiler connection and you set the transmitter( clock bit ) to switch the receiver to on at the required temp at the required times

Time to get a new replacement. In my experience as a qualified heating engineer, if you cannot get it to re-boot after carefully reading the instructions then the electronics has failed in either the receiver or transmitter. 10 years is about the life span of this product anyway and it did not cost a lot when new in comparison to other brands. If you have owned it from new then it does’nt owe you a penny. You may still find on the Internet a new replacement of the same model, but Siemens have had a newer model out for quite some time now.
