Gothic and lolita love ...
I purchased this book as i loved its predisesor 'fruits'. I love the fashion images of the Harajuku girls and boys, this edition focuses especially on the gothic and lolita style which I enjoyed very much. I would recomend to anyone interested in style/fashion or cultural study.

lots and lots of photos
This book is basically a collection of photos taken around the streets of Harajuku in Japan of people dressed mainly in gothic or lolita styles. Each page also has a few notes about the potraits - e.g. moniker, age, where they sourced some of the clothes and what they are currently inspired by.At first I was quite disappointed by it - I thought there would be more explanations and written details about gothic lolita other than the blurb inside the back cover (which is basically the amazon description). However, the photos did draw me in. Some are not always successful - why are photos of "fruits" included in a gothic and lolita themed book? and why were some included at all , for example a girl dressed in a bikini and looking out of it, and other photos of girls in plastic adult shop style clothes? My dad glimpsed one of these and became quite worried about my gothic lolita interest. The book is also not about gothic lolita exclusively but gothic AND lolita so there are lots of photos of goths and Cybergoths - which I didn't find so interesting as I see lots of these on the streets or going to clubs in the UK.I found the gender bending photos interesting - definetely some guys in there dressed as lolitas and a great girl "prince". My favourite photos were taken in bedrooms with the gothic lolitas surrounded by their personal effects. I find I often open the book and end up looking through it for quite a while, discovering new things. I also thought it was interesting where they sourced clothes - they seem obsessed with Vivienne Westwood shoes - the same pair appear in numerous shots.I am glad I got this book - as there is very little out there about GL but I prefer my Tokyopop english Gothic and Lolita bibles for the variety of articles and more innocent fun feel of them.Does anyone who has this book know if the dog on the front cover is fake? I think it is, but his position changes on the photo in the book.

Nice book but two stars off for adulterating the content.
I bought this as a present for my wife who is an English Lolita and I asked her and a Lolita friend of hers to let me know how they would rate it. The verdict is that although it is a very nice book there is a lot in there that is neither Lolita nor Lolita Gothic. Much of the Gothic is perfectly conventional Gothic that you might see any night at a club like Torture Garden. Much of the stuff that is not Gothic is not Lolita either, but the kind of thing you will find in Fruits. The pictures on the covers are real Lolita and real Lolita Gothic if you want some standard to judge by. If you know nothing about the subject you could start by being suspicious of anything that didn't involve puffy petticoats or head bows. You couldn't just put this book in someone's hands and tell them that it will show them what Lolita and Lolita Gothic is like because it won't.There is no shortage in Japan of pictures of the real thing so two stars off for adulterating the content.

Awesome!
Such a great book. Shows a very wide array of unique styles, all so interesting and captivating! I especially love all of the small sections of information about the people in the photographs given on each page. Some are humorous, some are touching/adorable, and some are great insight/inspiration for those into dressing similarly to the people featured in this book, themselves!I also really appreciate names of brands being shared for certain garments, as well as the occasional shots of amazingly decorated bedrooms featured as the backgrounds for the model in certain pages- rather than only photos taken in public.
