Easy to learn with
The media could not be loaded. These are great for learning how to use chopsticks. My children (8 and 10 year olds) loved trying them out, these are perfect for them. They're very excited to learn with these. It's so much easier to use regular chopsticks without it once you've used it with the helper part for a little while. They're very easy to wash by hand.

Excellent introductory chopstick trainers! Fastest thing I've ever learned.
My Korean Airbnb guest left behind beautiful stainless steel chopsticks. I've been failing trying to teach myself to use them. For years, when eating at Asian restaurants I would fumble around with wooden disposable chopsticks with mixed success but never really feeling confident and eventually give up and just ask for a fork but it turns out I was just holding them wrong the entire time. These trainer chopsticks, held in place by a stainless steel metal strip, allows perfect placement to consistently grab chunks of food like sushi rolls and dumplings with ease. After using them just four or five times, proper placement and hand movement became second nature using my stainless steel chopsticks. Very impressive! I'm not sure how well I'll do eating a bowl of sticky rice or a large cup of ramen but those are advanced techniques that will come eventually, but for learning the fundamentals these training chopsticks were exactly what I needed.

Never been able to work chopsticks, these are no help either.
While they stay together, still unable to make them work. They twist and the tips don't align any better for me than regular chopsticks.Guess I'm too old (as old as the Space Age).

Good gag gift for my mom.
My mom never could figure out how to use chopsticks, and so when I saw these I got them for her as a joke. She thought that it was pretty funny.Overall, the quality of the chopsticks is good, they feel durable. The spring is not to strong, but definitely strong enough that it will open up the chopsticks again when you release pressure.I recommend these chopsticks, especially if you're looking for a funny gift for a family member or friend.

Okay as a training tool
I am over 40 and I learned to use chopsticks as a kid. I would practice (for funzies) whenever we got take-out or delivery Chinese food. later in life I actually traveled in China for business for a few weeks and used those skills well enough that my Chinese coworkers seemed impressed with how well their pet "laowai" managed to feed himself! My kiddo is 11 and has been trying to figure out chopsticks. Like most beginners she struggles with the hand form and keeping the tips lined up properly. These tethered chopsticks help a great for helping with both of those basic things. They are only good as a starting point though because they don't teach very well the subtle shifts you can make with your hand and finger position to get better grips on various things. You can deliberately cross the tips, or slide you fingers forward or rearward for different grips. I noticed another reviewer mentioned scooping rice, which is a great example. I would even say that trying to stick with these beyond once you have the basic hand positioning and grip down will do more harm than good as far as actually learning to feed yourself with chopsticks. In family style serving and eating you can even reverse the (normal) chopsticks and use the rear to serve yourself from a communal dish, something you can't do with these of course. The quality also only feels so-so. They are a basic wooden (bamboo) chopstick with a metal spring hinge in the middle. The sticks themselves are a little on the thin side. You can lightly bend that spring hinge by the way until the distance and angle of the sticks is more natural for whomever is using them. Luckily the hinge does seem well attached to the sticks so build or assembly quality is decent. All in all they are okay as a learning device and I guess if you NEEDED to use chopsticks and had hand issues they might be useful. As a side note, pretty much everywhere I went in China when I travelled there, they had forks... and that wasn't just "Tier 1" cities. I was also surprised to find that for things like chicken wings, ribs or anything traditionally eaten by hand they usually supplied a plastic glove or two. You could use that to eat by hand and not end up a mess. I wish we did that here in the US at BBQ joints.

Great Training Chopsticks
I got these chopsticks for my son who is just now learning how to use regular ones. These worked perfectly! He was so excited that he could use chopsticks with the rest of the adults. They also allowed him to work on his finger placement without one of them falling. The quality of the chopsticks is really good. It seems as though they will last for awhile. All in all these are a great for learning how to use chopsticks or those who just cannot at all. I completely recommend!

Not impressed
I have not mastered the use of chopsticks and I hoped this item would guide me- it didn't.This is great concept but the design is far too flimsy.
