Muir Glen Organic Tomato Sauce, 15 oz. (Pack of 12)

I want to start by saying that Every. Single. Can. I received was dented. I order canned foods all the time from Amazon and absolutely none get dented in transit- which leads me to believe that I received a very cheap highly discounted set of cans that were severely dented prior to shipment. Needless to say, I was not very happy. Shipment issues aside, though, I want to rate this product based purely on the product alone and not my experience having it shipped to me through Amazon. Muir Glen has always been a company I've admired. They offer quality, organic products at an affordable price. Along with Libby's, they are my go-to for canned veggies. I've ordered canned tomatoes from them before and been very impressed. I thought surely their sauce would also be a win. I wasn't wrong. This sauce is just that; organic tomatoe sauce. Pureed tomatoes. Pure, flavorful perfection. There's no doubting the fact that the tomatoes used in this sauce were picked in their prime- as the quality truly does stand apart in taste from any other tomato sauce on the market. Even big market sauce makers with awesome flavor combos (ehem, Prego) don't match up in taste to Muir Glen's simple tomato sauce. It's robust and delicious and adds the best tomato flavor to any dish. I've used this sauce to make tomato soup, spaghetti, lasagna, ravioli, pizza, and marinara dipping sauce for breadsticks and mozzarella sticks. You can never go wrong with this sauce. It tastes delicious on any meal you put it on. I've been a long time user of Hunt's tomato sauce. They're great for my budget- but they don't even come close in competing to Muir Glen for flavor. They're worth the extra dollar; I promise you. And the fact they're organic? That just makes it all the better. No pesticides, no herbicides, no artificial fertilizers- no chemicals. I'm all about organic and I'm a fan of any company that can offer me a truly natural product. Muir Glen wins every time when it comes to canned tomato products and this sauce beats every other out there when it comes to flavor. I'm hoping my next shipment is not as dented; as our store doesn't carry Muir Glen and I'd really like to order these again. The quality of the product is fantastic! I just hope that my next batch comes in cans that are in much better shape.

Muir Glen is the only brand we buy, especially the spaghetti sauce in the jar, best of the best. Always made my own but this is better

Original: The cans arrived in great shape unlike some past orders of another product. The packaging was very good. The tomato sauce itself is excellent. I will buy this product again. --------------------------------- Back in 2011, the last time I ordered this product from Amazon.com, the case of tomato sauce cans had no dents and were BPA free. Unfortunately, prior to that there were several dented cans in each case. Because Amazon was out of this product when I ordered, last week (8/22/2012), I received a case from another reliable dealer in which half of the case contained dented cans and all contained BPA. I wrote Muir Glen, which is a div. of General Mills, and a customer rep. called me today. The cans are packaged by them in case lots by automated equipment. She's sending the info on the dented cans to quality control. As to the BPA issue, she advised that 2 seasons ago they stopped using BPA cans but some pre-2014 use-by-date cans may still contain the white lining/BPA in the cans. About half of the cans that expire in 2013 contain BPA. So, please check the "use by date" on the can. My case lot had a use-by-date of 23Feb2013, the bar code number is (small 7) 2534228571 (small 4). FYI, I'm not buying this product again unless I can see the "use by date." It's still a great tasting, no-salt-added tomato sauce. (Revised 8/27/2012)

this sauce is good but somewhere along the line it was mishandled... I'm not sure who would do this but they appear to have been packed that way so it must be the manufacturer... 3 cans were bent.. one severely.. I paid extra for this brand because a competitor was out... I guess paying extra didn't result in higher service unfortunately..

Mine arrived in perfect condition, 12 cans and not a scratch or dent among them. Muir Glen tomato sauce does have a little bit is added salt, garlic, and onion, though these flavors are not strong at all. But, nevertheless, this product might not be right for all applications. What Muir Glen doesn’t add is sugar. You may find that you need to add a bit of sugar to some recipes. What you don’t taste is any “canned” metallic flavor. The tomato flavor is excellent. There’s a clear reason why so many good cooks prefer Muir Glen canned tomato products. Some people object to canned anything just on principle. They want everything to be absolutely fresh. But the availability of fresh produce year-round is a very new thing. Many traditional recipes are actually written around canned ingredients. To get the authentic taste and experience, you need to use the correct ingredients. And that is sometimes canned stuff.

Love this stuff! Will always keep it on hand. Has the best taste of all the organic sauces I've tried, and it's just pure tomato sauce, doctor it from there as you wish.
