Expensive But Worth It
A while back I bought an extension from Amazon made from Chinesium. It was in fact very well made . Sadly the design was just a tad too long and as such my router lift even at the bottom of it's travel left my bits too proud to be used.So I bought this slightly wallet busting extension made in the good ole' US of A. In fact I spotted this in a US woodworking magazine accompanied by rave reviews which put me onto the idea and then cheaping out and buying Far Eastern instead. Thus costing more.... Doh!So, here it is. The perfect extension for your router if you have a table mounted on.Firstly, it's the correct length to work. By that I mean that using a router lifter and dedicated router you have enough range of travel so that most - and in fact all of my bits so far - are able to be used before the router bottoms out.The second and most important reason for this - and why it's a great buy - is that it makes changing bits easy. If you have your router mounted upside down it's often hard to access the collet with your spanners to free off the the bit when changing. On my table even with the bent spanners it's quite hard to do that without damaging the aluminium base that sits on the table. On a number of occasions I've slipped and nicked the access where the insert sits leaving a divet of aluminium to my annoyance. With this extension I can easily raise the bit above the table and get free access to the simple Allen screw locking bit making changing the tool easy as pie.Bottom line is that if you have a table router and find changing bits a bit of a pain then this extension is a no brainer. It's expensive but super well made and fantastically easy to use.

Solid, but not solid enough.
I used this extender successfully for a few weeks on my Elu 177E mounted on a Jessem table lift with a variety of router bits.First: The 1/4" adapter is very tight and very difficult to remove from the bits when inserted with sufficient depth, a hammer and a hole in my woodeorking bench is invariable needed.Second: The torque on the Xtender is so great that it sheared a Trend 6.35mm 2 blade flute from its 1/2 mount.Third: I inserted my new 1/2" spiral router bit - admittedly Chinese - tightly into the Xtender. The noise was horrendous and the bit almost immediately ejected itself from the Xtender into the router lift. Measuring the bit with my digital calipers it read 12.23mm, so almost half a mil less than specification. My complaint here really is that I cannot replace just the wedge (see photo please note that the wedge is reversed in the Xtender) which was badly damaged and the rubber grommet, which was shredded, as you presumably can in the US. Which means nearly £65 wasted.Paul.

Versatile
Adds all the lost depth when the router is mounted in a table or similar. Works very well, only one Allen screw to tighten. No wobble or run-out. Excellent piece of kit

So quick and easy to use
Very pleased with this. I use it on my router table which would be a nightmare to use if I had to remove the router every time I had to change the cutter. With this I just raise the router high enough to reach the grub screw and it's so easy to change cutters.
