Q: Does it work with Ring video doorbell

If your Ring Doorbell is a version that requires 8-24v AC then yes this works. It won’t work with the “Pro” range as they require DC rather than AC.

Q: Can this be wired to a plug socket rather than the mains

Yes as long as your plug socket is 240 volts AC. I can sell you my transformer as I bought it in error.

Q: How is this different from the D780?

The difference between the transformers is the mounting type: for the D780 is DIN/Surface for the D753 is Surface Both transformers have the same power specifications, 8V ~ 1A AC.
