Ultimate Darkness

I truly enjoyed Darkseed's Goth Metal style in the albums Give me Light Diving into Darkness, back in 1999. I have also have read that their style used to be Death Metal during their first few albums. Now, this album is very different from what I was expecting. The music is slighly industrial, with more effects and the vocals aren't as clean as before(eventho it is still Stefan Hertrich) - yes... their style now is a blend - Hardcore-Goth Metal??? There are no clean vocal chorus anymore - what I thought was the trademark of Darkseed, as Stefan takes his voice to a completely different and harsher level - that to me it sounded as a different singer overall.Don't get me wrong - the music is still great, just not as melodic as their previous releases. And I can somehow see how this new update to their sound may actually bring them to a Popular Spotlight in the near future... a sci-fi or horror type movie perhaps?Go ahead and buy it if you enjoy Aggressive/Goth music!

Good album by a good band

I can only listen to the first half of this extended CD, but it continues to be some of my favorite music to this very day. The stylistic and contextual changes which happen in the latter part don't appeal to my senses as much as the former, but seeing as this is essentially two CDs for the price of one I am easily willing to forget and simply turn my ear.The first half of the album has a macabre and more brutal feel to it addressing darker issues along a similar and engaging sound that I can only describe as both mellow and yet high intensity. It works for both occasions where you crave a low, dark beat and music with feeling and a punch. It can address some weighty issues while others feel much more trivial, but regardless of whether a song in particular's lyrics are as poignant as the last, the music itself weighs through. The best songs though, in my opinion, are the ones with a certain philosophical edge such as "Next to Nothing" whose nihilistic overtones make this one of the most appealing tracks.To quickly address the second half, the tone gets much more light-hearted and uplifting yet still hovers in the range of metal. A new, talented female singer is added for certain songs, but the feelings remain the same. This CD is like a double sided coin.I highly recommend this album. It has been a shining gem in my collection.

This album is good metal like Metallica's self titled Black Album. You have to be in a certain mood to listen to this cd but it is a must in my collection. I probably only listen to the cd a couple times a year but it is definetely a good album and can be refreshing in terms of refreshing your soul.

Amazing cd, that is all I can say.For listeners of pure metal.No regrets buying this masterpiece.

Darkseed meldet sich mit einem echt fulminantem und vor Power strotzendem Album zurück. Sänger Stefan Hertrich ist glücklicherweise wieder zurückgekehrt, mit jeder Menge fantastischem Material. Dieses Album schlägt und übertrumpft sämtliche bisherige Darkseed-Alben. Endlich wieder mit vollständigen Line-out dreschen und rocken Darkseed ordentlich daher. Schon der erste Song „Disbeliever", der beste Song, den Darkseed je produziert hat, haut einen schier um. Stefan singt besser denn je, er variiert sehr viel mit seiner Stimme. Harte Drums, düstere, breite Gitarren und fantastische elektronische Keyboardriffs, dazu ein echt geiler Refrain und ein Klasse Gitarrensolo. „My burden" ist ein weiteres Meisterwerk, hier singt Stefan einen Englisch-Deutsch-Mix im Refrain, der Song ist schnell, hart, düster, einfach genial, wieder durchzogen mit herrlichen Keyboard - und Gitarrenriffs. Der Titelsong „Ultimate darkness" fetzt genauso temporeich weiter, auch hier präsentiert Stefan neue Variationen seiner Stimme, und Tom spielt ein weiteres Mal ein echt fantastisches Gitarrensolo, hinterlegt mit wahnsinns Keyboardakkorden. Mit „Biting cold" wird`s etwas ruhiger, jedoch bleibt das enorm hohe Niveau und das Hörvergnügen erhalten. „Biting cold" könnte man als Ballade bezeichnen, es beginnt mit herrlichen Pianoklängen, hat einen mitreißenden Refrain und hat unheimlich Atmosphäre. „The dark one" haut einen wieder um, Stefan singt düsterer und „brutaler" denn je, harte Industrialriffs und wieder Klasse elektronische Keyboards dazu, und natürlich wilde, harte Drums. Auch hier wieder ein bisschen Englisch-Deutsch-Mix. Der letzte Refraindurchlauf ist mit sehr epischen Keyboards hinterlegt, man wünscht sich förmlich der Song würde nie zu Ende gehen. Keine Atempause für den Zuhörer, „Save me" bricht mit harten Industrialriffs los, die Melodie schwänkt von einer Überraschung zur nächsten. Mit „Speak silence" hält Darkseed noch immer dieses hohe Niveau, man fragt sich, wie die das machen. Ein Klasse Refrain, noch geiler sind die Strophen selbst, in denen Stefan wieder alles gibt und sich den Titel „The dark one" redlich verdient. „Next to nothing" ist für mich ein kleiner Ausfall, es ist ein guter Song, ich finde ihn jedoch etwas schwach, er passt nicht so ganz zu den anderen. Mit „Follow me" wird das hohe Niveau wieder voll aufgegriffen, eine weitere Ballade mit herrlichem Refrain und Klasse Pianos.„The Fall", wieder ein recht flotter Song, wieder mit Armins Klasse Keyboardriffs. Ebenso „Endless night", hat einen fantastischen Refrain, ist sehr düster, einfach genial. Letzter Song „Sleep sleep sweetheart" ist ein wenig traurig, fängt langsam, nur mit Keyboards an, der Rest der Band legt jedoch schon bald los. Der Song wirkt sehr düster, auch ein wenig gruselig während den Strophen, ein Klasse Abschluss für das Album.Zur Bonus-CD möchte ich sagen, die neue Version von „Walk in me" ist einfach Klasse, nochmals ein Auftritt der Sängerin Sasema, die schon auf dem Astral Adventures Album ihr Talent bewiesen hat. Und Erwähnung verdient die Coverversion von Mel C`s „I turn to you". Obwohl`s zunächt vielleicht komisch klingt, doch Darkseed hat es geschafft aus diesem Popsong einen fantastischen, düsteren Gothic-Song zu machen, mit harten, rauen Gitarren und geilem Keyboard.Abschließend ist zu sagen, dieses Album ist ein Meisterwerk, wohl kaum zu überbieten. Das Geld lohnt sich, mehr als das. Wenn man`s einmal gehört hat, kann man`s nicht mehr weglegen. Stefan,Tom, Tommy, Martin, Armin, Mauri..... gute Arbeit, weiter so.
