100% food safe; i assume this means it's been oiled with mineral oil? Is that right? How is it to be cared for?

I also bought this as a gift but I would if it was for me wash the wooden surface before using it and the rub in olive oil and repeat after each use

can someone tell me the width of the piece underneath that acts as the turning mechanism?

Can’t remember. All I do remember is that it doesn’t work. Cheaply made and does not work. I ordered two (1 being a replacement) Both useless. Both returned.
