What are the dimensions? Closed, Open and the thickness of the leather?

The size is about 8.5 x 4.5" and for the thickness, it depends somewhat on how much you put into the notebook, but it's roughly .5 to .75. It's a great notebook, especially since you can easily replace the pages and Midori makes a bunch of different type of pages and other inserts. It's really flexible!

Is this a genuine midori? they usually run $20 higher and this one says it's made in thailand when i thought they were made in japan.

Can you attach a pen/pencil to the notebook?

There is not a place to attach a pen or pencil. You will need to purchase the leather pen holder attachment. Just search on Amazon "Midori Traveler's notebook Pen holder" and you will find it. Then pen holder comes in brown and black to match the traveler's notebooks. I own the brown one and it does hold securely to the notebook and the pen holder secures the pen well.

Would a US letter size paper, folded in half fit inside this?

You would have to trim standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper whether folded vertically or horizontally.
