I'm new to miswak but recently had tried out a couple of trimmed UK foraged twigs - cherry and lime - and found them surprisingly effective and pleasant for cleaning teeth. This is my first purchase of miswak from a Salvadora persica tree. I understand they are root rather than twig.This is a really nicely designed pack with its two holders, four sticks in all, cutter & instructions, very reassuring for newcomer. As you can see from photo, kit is small and compact - I hadn't realised likely size - so will be very handy for travel or just keeping one in handbag. Sticks, on opening (each is sealed in individual package with packaging date: mine are April 2020) are moist with unfamiliar horse radish flavour, not unpleasant though unfamiliar.For someone with irregular teeth who has always had difficulty getting into the awkward corners, this approach is revolutionary (wish I had found them years ago). You can feel around each tooth and get into the crannies much more easily than with traditional plastic toothbrush. And how nice not to be adding to the global plastic toothbrush mountain. Price seems reasonable compared to others on Amazon for whole kit which you would only need to buy once. Refills cheaper, so happy enough with the £9.99 to get me started. Scientific reports online (and WHO) seem to suggest miswak may be effective as modern toothbrush/paste approach, if not more so, but be careful of gum recession/abrasion from over-enthusiastic over-frequent use.

I have given 5 stars because the Miswak does clean your teeth. However, it took me about 3 days to master holding the piece of root to clean the back of my teeth! I have arthritic hands, so it wasn't easy! Instructions how to use the brush are clear enough. I didn't soak the tip of mine in water to soften it before trimming because the bark is soft enough already and can be eased off with finger nail. The 1cm of root fibre exposed is very easily bitten off. The instructions say to 'chew' it to tease fibres into a brush. If you don't mind small bits of fibre getting in between your teeth, then chew! You'll end up with half a brush to clean your teeth! If you expose more than 1cm the fibres will flatten out once you start brushing, and break off. Even though Miswak does clean your teeth, I do not like this brush because I find it difficult to use. I prefer a standard toothbrush with Sarakan toothpaste. I won't buy this again.

Except one rotten miswak that broke in small pieces, all of the others are top quality in freshness. The little plastic bag is very practical, the cutter is not super effective is that leaves a few threads, but it may just be me not using it properly. Overall great kit.

Being from South America i have tried a lot of new dental products in the UK but this is something completely new to me. i was a bit skeptical at first i was worried about the taste because it was VERY fresh when i removed from packaging. The video on the website helped and the bark is slightly weird tasting at first but nothing to drastic- it is organic so it's expected to taste a bit funny (well in my mind). After the bristles form it's actually the best thing. Teeth are nice and white and the organic Toothbrush really does clean better than normal dental products. I also need no toothpaste and always have it in my handbag. AMAZING PRODUCT , I LOVE IT and i felt the need to review.JESSICA

Excellent all round! Beautiful presentation, would make a lovely gift for someone. I have never used anything like this before but was curious. Have to say it's exactly as described and very easy to use. Love the storage tube as good for travelling. The peeler/scissors are high quality and a nice addition if you don't want to chew to expose new bristles. Yes, a few bits do come away when brushing as another reviewer mentioned but quite frankly I see that as a plus because those stray bits are cleaning in hard to reach places until you rinse. All in all, very pleased and will definitely replace when used up.

The Miswaks included here are of poor quality, they break easily and are weirdly shaped, making them difficult to use.The cutter was rusty and dirty as there was some form of residue stuck on it.The packaging was also damaged.

I like the fact that this product actually does clean teeth and tongue and does leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh. I have taken away one star however as I think it is somewhat awkward to get to the back of the mouth and tongue, and I like to be thorough, which this prevents me from being. It also states on the pack that it is a 30 day supply however as I have had to clip it twice for a thorough clean I think it will last two weeks at best. I ordered this a month ago but only started using it a few days ago and I think I will continue. Hopefully it gets less awkward with practice. Another thing worth mentioning is that you do need to brush morning and night to maintain freshness whereas I usually only brush in the mornings when using a regular toothbrush and toothpaste. I noticed some reviews stated this made teeth whiter which I cant say I have noticed. I have noticed that it does leave my teeth gleaming and they do feel smoother. I have also removed one star because the ingredients on the pack (as pictured) show that it contains flouride and other compounds. Not sure whether these are naturally occuring but considering the reason for not using this and not toothpaste is to avoid flouride I was disappointed.
