Not very sharp on delivery, but put it to use on brush clearance straight away and it wanged small branches off effortlessly. I may sharpen it a little bit. Would have been nice to have a hanging loop or a hole to fit one.

Bought for splitting planks and small logs for kindling and for lopping small branches/coppicing. Good weight and balance, if a little heavy for a full day's work (but I'm old and weak). Impossible to comment on "durability" - my last handbill, lost in a house move, had already lasted 20 years or more and is no doubt still going strong somewhere or other. I have taken off a star because it arrived worse than blunt; I have spent hours with files and heavy-duty sharpeners to get an even, appropriate edge on it and it still needs work. I refuse to use a grinding wheel for fear of the edge getting too hot and losing temper.

Works wonders

Arrived blunt, with entire sections of the blade totally unsharpened. Steel is poor quality, and even after sharpening it, it lasted less than five minutes before the tang pulled entirely out of the handle.

Bought this to replace my old faithful one that i've had for 35yrs and it broke !First look out the box and its good.Had to resharpen it to get rid of the grinder sharpened factory edge and do it with a file and stone .Now you can shave with it ! Real quality metal,as expected from Spear & Jackson,that holds its edge while working. Perfect balance and weight and lays hedge to perfection. A joy to use.Wasn't looking forwards to getting a new one as they never feel the same but pleasntly suprised how well it fits my hand and replaces my old one . IDEAL

Good and solid. Well made. But.... absolutely zero edge out of the packaging. It had a blade guard cable tied on it, so I was hoping it would be somewhat sharp, but no, nothing, couldn't cut butter. Literally had to use a file to make a cutting point and then a whetstone to sharpen.

Good old fashioned product. No frills. Excellent

nicely balanced and weighted does need a good sharpen before use to get the best out of the tool but not at all unusual for this type of tool. I like it and find it good value for money
