Great Headphones at a great price!
Having decided to replace my old Sony On-ear Headphones I started looking around for a pair of new Headphones at a reasonable price and, after having checked up on various makes, I came across the Betron Retro High Definition Over-Ear-Headphones. As Betron was a name I'd never heard of, I did some extensive research into this make online and on YouTube and decided to purchase a pair of Betron Retro's as I Iiked the design and the added appeal of them selling at a price that suited my budget! The fact that the Betron Retro's are a British-Manufactured make made them even more interesting and attractive. They arrived very soon after I had ordered them and I couldn't wait to open the box and try them out. I prefer to use headphones nearly all of the time and - as my listening is mainly of Classical music, Jazz and some Rock music, plus DVDs and CDs played on my Blu-ray player as well as watching programmes via my connected TV - any pair of headphones I use needs to be able to cope with a wide range of audio experiences. The first thing that has to be said is that they are very Bass-heavy. This isn't too much of a problem if you prefer this feature and have a good Bass control on your Hi-fi system and can moderate this. Secondly, I thought that the sound felt very compressed and this was probably because the inner diameter of the ear pads, around 50mms, was quite small and felt quite tight around my ears. So, I ordered some larger ear pads, with an inner diameter of around 60mms, and this has transformed these headphones incredibly. The replacement ear pads I purchased have an external diameter of 110mms, as opposed to the size of the ear pads fitted on to the Betron's being 100mms, and with the larger inner diameter, they provide more ear comfort and create a more spacious sound and more detail. An example of this improvement leapt out at me when listening to an orchestral recording on Vinyl LP - which I've heard many times - of a section with light taps on a Bass Drum that I'd not heard with such clarity before. Naturally, if you want to spend much more for a pair of headphones then the sky's the limit but, if you're looking for a good budget pair, then I can recommend the Betron Retro's as they have improved my listening experience 100%, although I would recommend buying replacement ear pads to enhance your listening experience using these headphones!

Recommended..
These are very good quality for the price and they are very comfortable to wear.. The sound is ok with no EQ but a bit heavy on the bass for me but this is easy to EQ to your liking. For the price these are very good , I have paid alot more to named brands and got alot less for my money.. They are a tad heavy but in a good way and they fit nice and snug on my head.. I was happy to wear these for long periods of time.. Recommended..

Cheap and cheerful in a good way
The best thing about it is sound quality at a very low price point. Aesthetically it looks pretty good too. It is actually ideally suited for low quality sources like a mid range or entry mobile device. Sources where if you plug in a high end headphone or IEM, the sound is rather flat and dull. This headphone brings out the missing low end and music and movies sound much closer to what you would expect. You won't be blown away by the midrange, vocals, the sound stage or the high end. But, it is coherent throughout the frequency spectrum and the overall impression is one of "sufficient competence". It simply is "good enough". Stick them on your head while you watch Netflix or listen to music on the toilet and you'll be pleased enough. And FYI I know what "better". Let's just say I own or have owned preofessional grade audio equipment. Now let's get the negatives out of the way, for £20, you can't expect Sennheiser or Grado quality. They look good, but feel a little plasticky and light. They're also not as big as I thought, as I have a fat head. Noise cancellation is minimal to none. Overall though, still a good buy. My other cheap run about headphone is a pair of OneOdio bought from Amazon, they're a bit better but also a bit more expensive than this.

I cannot believe how good this is. Just ordered two more !
This is probably the fastest review I ever felt I wanted to write for something like this. After reading the other reviews I had the feeling this was a good value for money and I bought the thing, more as an experiment than anything else as I'm always looking for good budget price headphones to try out. I was not expecting this at all. This product is amazing and by far the best value for money I ever encountered in something like this. I don't know what technology is iside this thing but the sound quality is simply amazing. The range , the depth and even the bass (some people said it was not that great) are GREAT !!! Just WOW ! Really cool retro design too which I loved from the get go. Ok, do not compare this to a ultra-mega-high-end studio-product that costs hundreds more, but even as it is I'm absolutely amazed by the overall quality on this. In fact, I spent the last couple of hours comparing the sound from this with a bunch of other phones I have around and this one sounds even better than a couple of others that cost me about ten times more from really well known expensive brands... Even for listening with my cellphone, just playing a youtube video this equipment excels at everything. I was not expecting this at all. If you're into movie soundtracks , don't have much money and need a really, really good headphone set, you cannot go wrong with this product. For orchestral music, for blues, acoustic and above all for Heavy Metal the performance of this product was beyond everything I was expecting for the price. Particularly for Heavy Metal like Dark Sarah, Nightwish, Blind Guardian and stuff that has a lot of cinematic feel on its sound you cannot go wrong with this product. The noise cancellation is not perfect but i was not expecting it to be, altough is very very good, but the overal sound quality when played on a cellphone and on a regular hi-fi stereo ( got an LG myself at work here ) is trully a surprise. I have no idea what these manufacturers used to build this thing but keep doing what you do. This product has just become my favorite headphones for music, talk radio and audiobooks and it will be essential for me when Im working in illustration at night for months to come for sure. Very confortable also. I'm absolutely impressed with this. I haven't tested it with gaming yet.

Sound Quality
These headphones are quite power hungry, so if you're planning on using them at high volumes, you won't achieve that through mobile devices. You'll need either a PC or an AMP. I tested these out on my mobile phone. They sounded extremely clear and crisp. I then tested them out on my PC that has an AMP DAC and wow. They sound incredible. For £19.99 you would not expect this at all. I've always had a love for Betron audio products because their pricing has never represented the insane quality and power you get. These headphones really are incredible for 19.99. I tested out the base handling and treble handling at the same time and they handle very great volumes of both bass and treble heavy sound very well. It's just incredible for the price. They could easily charge £80 for these. As I have a lot of headsets and headphones and these out perform a fair few that are within the 80-120 range. Phenomenal yet again Betron. Always out doing your selves. They are extremely comfortable and one of the best Self Adjusting Headbands I've felt. It's effortless to put them on and let them adjust to perfect and optimum position for no air leakage and great isolation. Just outstanding on all forms. Please bare in mind. I am using an AMP DAC with these to increase audio quality and supplied power as I assume the Ohm's on these are around the 80 mark. I recommend these a hell of a lot for anyone looking for some great headphones for their PC whether that be for Gaming or just General Audio use. That is where they will shine every time. They are (as always with Betron) mind blowing for yet again, the price. They punch so damn high for their pricing. Betron are true veterans of customer experience. Well done yet again. Look sound and feel extraordinary.

Nice
I gave this 5⭐ because of the comfort for long listening sessions sat in the chair and plugged direct to your hi-fi stereo unit, not great for mobile phone due to braided jack lead. They adjust to tone and bass well and there quite loud. I like the retro look but what ever you do don't wear them outside/you will get bullied but if you like being centre of attention then go for it.👍

Buy at your own risk!
I fancied a pair of comfortable closed back headphones, didn't want to spend too much as they would only be used for listening to music while gaming. Seeing all the positive comments on here saying how good they were and the fact they were £15.99 at the time of purchase, I thought I'd give them a try. No disrespect to any of the people who gave them 5 stars, but I'm not sure what they heard when they put them on, or indeed what they are used to listening to, but the sound of these headphones (to my ears anyway) is TERRIBLE! The Bass, as you would expect, given they are "Bass Driven" is pretty good. Unfortunately the Midrange suffers and the Treble is almost non existent. I would describe the sound as somewhat muffled and very "closed in", as if you were listening to a speaker in a box. The only plus point is, they are extremely comfortable and had the sound quality been better, could be worn for long periods. You may read this and say "what did you expect for £15.99?" Well given the RRP is near to £50, the answer is, a lot more! If you listen to dance music and have never used a decent pair of headphones before, or you want to buy a funky looking pair of headphones for your kids and don't want to throw too much money away, then these are the headphones to buy. If you want your music to sound pretty good and use your headphones for a long period, then avoid these at all costs! If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. As they say, you get what you pay for, and these are in no way, a bargain. They were immediately returned for a refund.

Muddy out of the box and not for prolonged wear due to stitching
Pros: - decent build for a penny shy of £20 - metal headband + plastic band to prevent them from sliding off when moving head - with an equaliser applied, they sound decent and resolution is pretty good (see cons, though) - mostly soft ear pads - a bit of noise isolation Cons (that knocked stars off) - equaliser necessary for decent sound quality (very boxy due to recessed mids and high otherwise) - stitching on ear pads makes them stiff exactly where they touch my ears, resulting in discomfort and some pain after about an hour of use - distortions even at lower than medium volume - left driver much quieter (barely audible) at low volume than the right one - goes away Cons (that didn't affect the rating and I had been aware of when purchasing): - ear pads are fixed - cable is fixed and tends to twirl practically by itself - they can leak sound even at lower volumes (but this could be because my ears would list the pads a little) Other bits, possibly of interest to some: - these are pretty loud - if you'd like to gift these to someone, the packaging is nice enough, if not particularly stylish The review itself: Recently, my Mad Catz F.R.E.Q.M Wired Headset - Matte black developed an intermittent issue with one channel flaking out and a piece of retaining plastic snapped off of the Audio-Technica ATH-WM55 Headphone I have, I have started looking for a new pair of headphones. I originally started looking into rather expensive headphones, but then realised my selection process could get rather lengthy and I wanted a pair with some noise isolation abilities sooner rather than later, which my older over ear headphones didn't really provide and noisy neighbours tend to spoil my sounds fairly often these days. The Betron Retro seemed like it could be a good stop-gap, and I hoped that perhaps it could last a bit as well. The headphones themselves look quite nice, although both by their looks and their feel in the hand, you can tell that they're practically all plastic. Decent plastic for the most part, except for the bit on the earcups with the Betron logo, which feels a bit frail. The gold-coloured bands seem to be, however, metal. I have a rather large noggin, and have no issues putting these on. The plastic band adjusts itself automatically and works as a sort of anti-skid protection, while the metal bands provide the tension to keep the headphones on. They're not particularly tight, but I had to wiggle my head a fair bit to get them to start sliding off. The pads are thick and pretty soft for the most part. However, while my ears aren't small, I don't think they're quite that large, and they only fit into the cups if I help them a little. That wouldn't be an issue, except my ears get under the edges of the pads and there's lies my first issue with them - the stitching makes the edges that are on my ears stiff and lead to some pain after about an hour of wearing these. They aren't changeable. Someone with smaller ears could likely find these very comfortable, however. I have let these 'burn in' for 36 hours off my head plus about 8-10 more hours of listening to varying genres of music and human speech, all at low to medium volume. Here comes my second issue with these. Without using an equaliser, they sound very boxy, about as much when I first tried them on after they came as after the burn-in. Lows are either overpowering, or mids and high are very recessed. Not an issue if you don't mind fiddling with an equalizer, but quite annoying without it. I had thought I could get used to it, but I miss clarity above bass pretty much all the time. Additionally, I could hear them distorting some frequencies. With some help of an EQ, however, they are much better. Very decent even, except the distortions become much more apparent. I had suspected this was perhaps due to lower quality of the input files (MP3, 320 kbps, 2 channels), but I have some clip-on earphones and in-ears and I didn't hear the distortion through them. It also seemed that when I lowered volume enough, the left driver was suddenly much quieter than the right one. Were it not for the distortion issues, they would actually be better than the headphones I mentioned earlier with the equalizer on. I would say the Koss KSC75 Clip-On Stereo Headphones for iPod, iPhone, MP3 and Smartphone - Silver/Black sound better still (comparing the Betron Retro with the EQ on and the Koss without it). They offer more clarity, slightly better resolution (by a hair) and are very well balanced out of the box. The frequency range I could hear was about 35Hz - 15.5 kHz on both, but the Betron starts rolling off practically straight above bass, whereas the Koss barely at all throughout the range. I'm not sure whether mine were slightly defective or not (regarding the distortions and left driver issue), but the ear pads and need of an equaliser by themselves made me return these. Given the issues, mine are going back and I'll be splashing a fair bit more on closed cup headphones with better sound (sans EQ) , less distortion and more comfortable ear pads.
