Works great with laptops that don't have Thunderbolt
I needed dual extended monitors for my MSI gaming laptop. Unfortunately it didn't have Thunderbolt and the USB-C port was only for data transfer. MSI support said there was no way to hook up dual monitors as it only has one HDMI port. However, this adapter changed everything. It uses the older USB-A port which I had plenty to choose from. I simply went to the website and downloaded and installed the driver. Restarted it and installed the adapter and connected the HDMI cable. I then pressed the Windows logo and P and chose Extended. And lo and behold I have two monitors. Not mirrored but actually extended. Not bad for $25.

It must of been defective
I bought this in August 2025. In December 2025, it stopped working. It worked great until it didn't.

HDMI to USB computer cable works flawlessly
Finally found a cable to plug into my a 3rd monitor that uses an HDMI TV connection and then into a normal USB port in my 7 year old computer is fantastic. Cheers 🍻!

EDIT: yes it works! WAS: It doesn't (really) work
EDIT: I'm changing my review from 2 to 4 stars. It does indeed work when the lid of the MacBook Air is closed, and the additional display it drives can go up to 1080p. It works quite well, but not perfectly. I have an additional 27" display plugged into this j5create unit, and the unit is plugged into a USB 3.0 hub along with other USB devices, which is then plugged into the MacBook Air. *I have not tried to plug this into a USB 2.0 hub* This drives the additional display well enough for office work, watching Youtube, etc. It lacks a tiny bit of sharpness, but I can live with it. I wouldn't try to play games using this. The failure in my initial review was mostly fault, coupled with inadequate instructions. The instructions did not point out that I need to a driver in a DIFFERENT directory if I was using an older MacOS. I was on High Sierra at the time. After upgrading to Catalina, and using the default driver, it worked. One star off for lacking documentation and slight difficulty in configuring. If you're not comfortable with system settings and installation of drivers, then this isn't for you. If you are, then this works just fine. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have a 2017 Macbook Air 13. So yes, I can get this to output to a 2nd display. The setup is as follows: 1. Mac DisplayPort goes to my main display 2. This j5create JUA350 outputs to a second display. But there are some severe limitations that aren't discussed in the documentation or marketing materials. These limitations make this (expensive) adapter unusable for me. The limitations are: 1. The J5create JUA350 can't to the external display resolution that is greater than the Macbook Air's native display. For example, the Macbook Air screen is 1440x900. That means that the max resolution that this device can output for your display is 1140x900. 2. This device does not work if the lid to the laptop is closed. If I close the lid of the MacBook pro, then BOTH the display linked to the DisplayPort and the display that is driven by this adapter will mirror. The whole point of getting this adapter was to be able to close my laptop and tuck it away. So that's not possible with this unit on a Macbook Air. Save your money if you don't want to have to have your laptop open on your desk (which would obviate the need for another display!).

2012 Mac Mini Triple Monitor Three Display
Using this adapter I was able to add a third monitor to my 2012 Mac Mini. All three monitors are Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED 24-Inch Widescreen LED Monitor with Full HD 1080p . I am using the Mac Mini built in ports, and one of these adapters. One to the Mac Mini mDP using the Apple mDP to DVI adapter, one to the Mac Mini HDMI port using the Apple HDMI to DVI adapter, and one hooked to the J5 device, using the J5 included HDMI to DVI adapter. I am not using mirror mode, all three monitors have their own unique display, with all the features OSX provides therein, such as different backgrounds per monitor, more useable desktop area, etc. As a working professional, the extra desktop space of a third monitor is awesome. The only mild downside is that the OSX color calibration controls did not work on the monitor using this adapter. I was able to use the monitors built-in controls to reasonably match the color of my other two monitors that had previously been carefully calibrated using the OSX controls. I can definitely tell that the monitor refreshes a tad slower when I try to "push" it, like if I am rapidly moving a window around the screen there is a barely noticeable delay while it redraws. For normal use, such as web-browsing or creating content in Adobe products, I do not notice the refresh at all.

Not a stable product for Mac
Works on Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) but doesn't support display rotation. Big bummer for me. Works flawlessly with Windows 7 Utlitmate, but this is not what I've bought this thing for. On Mavericks, install the driver, reboot and reconnect the display multiple times, it didn't work for me from the first try. If the display gets disconnected for any reason you'll have to fiddle around again to make it work. If it doesn't help, switch resolutions a few times, eventually it will come up. Very frustrating. This thing is slow on Mac, but good enough for text based work and browsing. TL;DR: Not worth the money.

Macbook Pro (non-retina) / Mavericks - Works Great!!
I have another usb display that used to work with Mountain Lion, but started barely working with Mavericks. This J5 3.0 adapter is heads and tails better. I'm not having any issues with it. It's still got a very slight lag on some things (swiping between spaces, etc..) but most of the time I don't even notice. Even plays HD video nicely. I'd recommend this if you're looking to add another display to your Macbook.

Works as advertised
Works as advertised. This is my 3rd on the same laptop in order to run 4 external 27" monitors running off a USB 3.0 hub. Once in a while, only 2 of the 3 external graphics cards/monitors trigger and I need to unplug the offending adapter and plug it back in to trigger the graphics/monitor.

Funktioniert einfach, was will man mehr.
