Best CD I purchased recently.

This album is essentially a greatest hits album collecting his biggest selling hits from the eighties. It also includes songs that didn't feature on his first three solo albums (such as groovy kind of love).Its a perfect place to start off with if you're new to Phil. I bought this to listen to in the car without having to worry about changing CD's (really could do with an mp3 player...)Considering its a greatest hits album, there's a lot of his early material that is missing (there doesn't seem to be that much material from his first album, although In The Air Tonight is present...)There is a 3-album pack available from amazon collecting the first three of his albums, and that is the one that you should get if you're looking for a more complete experience (but you would miss out on some of the songs he has done for soundtracks, in particular "Against All Odds")This would be the perfect for old Phil fans who want to replace old CD's and anyone who missed out on him first time around (his marmite reputation comes from the fact he was overplayed and everywhere in the eighties, but this is true of most modern pop now)

I watched the BBC2 Documentary about Genesis and their individual solo careers and it reminded me how much I liked their music but also Phil's songs none of which I have in CD form. I have always loved 'Against All Odds' and also 'Separate Lives'. It was interesting watching the documentary and how the other members of Genesis were happy for Phil's success but also quite taken aback by just how successful he became. I know Mr Collins is not always popular but there is no denying he is a brilliant song writer. 'In the Air Tonight' is a great song but it's only after watching the documentary I realised it's about his ex wife leaving him for a Painter and Decorator! The programme after the Documentary was a Top of the Pops special dedicated to Genesis. It showed Phil singing 'In the Air Tonight' at a keyboard with a tin of paint with a brush in on top of his keyboard and this apparently was reference to the fact his wife ran off with the painter and decorator!! I suppose it shows he has a sense of humour!I chose this specific Greatest Hits CD as it had a lot of my favourites on and was not all ballads. I loved every song.

Amazon says it has been shipped and may arrive next week, but it arrived last week and I love it!

pour une fan de Phil Collins, je trouve l'album sympa même si pour moi il manque quelques incontournables mais c'est un bon début
