Picks up surface sounds but not underground
The microphone could pick up every blade of grass popping back up after placing the microphone on the ground. It could also rupture your eardrum if you touched the microphone with the volume up. What it couldn't do is detect anything underground and was not able to find a leaking water pipe. The probe was useless and it never worked for anything above or below ground.

Did not work for water line 4 foot underground
Water line is about 4 foot underground and this was useless to detect a leak in this case.
