Brilliant Kit!
My 10 year old Grandson was delighted with this kit - he's into coding in a big way so this was an ideal treat for him - our children live in this highly technological age so this is ideal - he's spent a lot of time using this kit.

Great.
The media could not be loaded. Micro:bit is a really amazing toy! 5 stars and I highly recommend. The associated app was simple to figure out and gives you a "blank sheet of paper for creating". The app lets you figure out basic coding. You can even do it in on an iPhone or tablet and you don't even need a computer. The basic Microbit has an LED display, two buttons, multiple sensors inputs, and an accelerometer for detecting position. It can be powered via USB or batteries. It also has Bluetooth. There aren't many instructions, but that is part of the entire point! You are supposed to tinker and discover. Within about 10 mins, I figured out how to write my first program and had the LED display scrolling my name. There are tons of websites that help teach you how to code and interact with the microbit. If your child is brand new to coding, I recommend this book first: https://www.amazon.com/Help-Your-Kids-Computer-Coding-ebook/dp/B00KVPKHMK/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1513476577&sr=1-11&keywords=dk+coding+kids Then add the microbit for physical interaction.I would recommend this for someone that is curious, a tinkerer, willing to discover things on their own, likes to create. You need to be a self starter, don't expect to just play it.... you have to build it!The accessory kit adds jumper cables, buzzers, and other sensors that really expands the micro:bit. You definitely need this kit to get the most out of the micro:bit. The ideas are endless....

Fun, economical introduction to Coding
This is a great introduction to writing code and seeing your labor pay off in seemingly small, insubstantial ways. It is fun to tinker around with and learn the basics of coding. I'm not sure if a true novice would be very taken by it, but for those who have patience and a desire to learn coding, it is a great gateway for those processes.
