Reliable
First of all, in some reviews people are complaining that this is an old model. Well, it is.However, I needed it t replace exactly the same model of HDD in an old-ish laptop and this was just what I wanted. My previous hard disk is a reliable piece of hardware, still working fine after years of intense usage, so I only hope this one will be the same. So far so good.Secondly, in case anyone was wondering, according to SMART tools, this is indeed a new, unused hard drive. There are hard drives with bigger capacity around, but for the price I think this is a very good compromise.

Seagate Drive
These are either new old stock or reconditioned and have been reset but they seem to work fine, You get the usual 465Gb for 500Gb and it is 7200 rpm. This drive was dated 2016. I had to use Computer Management to set it up and format it in a USB HDD case. So far so good.

Hard drive
I bought this hard drive in the hope I could use it to repair my Freesat box. Am pleased to report it fitted straight in and works perfectly at a fraction of the cost to buy a dedicated one.

This Hdd drive in not new..
This hard drive is not new, that said, the drive i received tested "good" on driver test software without errors or bad sectors. So for the money i guess its not bad. If you are going to put this drive in a caddy your pc may not see it.. you will need to format it in windows partition manager.

It's an old drive as expected but ... it's genuinely new and unused!
I needed a cheap drive with decent storage, and for 500GB under £20 I thought why not give it a go.When it arrived today it was well packaged but the anti-static drive was a resealable one, so I was dubious if it was new.The date of manufacture was 2014, so I plugged it into a USB-SATA adapter. I noticed nothing happened so checked out Disk Management and initialised the disk - a very good start, as if the drive had never been used it would not need initialised. I then formatted it.I checked the SMART data using CrystalDiskInfo. The drive had previously been initialised 3 times, this was the 4th time, but I noted ZERO hours logged. Also amazingly I noticed (and didn't believe at first) the spin rate of 7200RPM? Normally these drives are 5400RPM and desktop drives are 7200.So not only is this a stupidly cheap drive, it is genuinely "New old stock", never used, and also will perform much better than the average 2.5" hard drive.Granted I am writing a 5 star review after 30 mins of ownership, and I will definitely update this review if anything goes wrong but so far I am very impressed.

Very intelligent packing
Whoever specified the style of the pre-packing understood the weaknesses of 2.5" drives and packed accordingly to minimise the risk of damage. Well done. Will test drive and add comments. Now had the drive powered up. It has a rating of 0.75 Amps which is a little too much to directly connect to a USB2 port if using a SATA to USB adapter. Use a powered hub.Considering it is a 7200 rpm drive it is very quite with very slight vibration.Delivered in a sealed anti-static bag that looks like manufacture's packing.Seagate is one of the few surviving HD manufactures and have been around for a long time.

Failed drive in just over a month. Check the date I was sent a 2015!
Installed OK but failed in just over one month. It was then I realised how old this "New" drive is, it's dated 2015 so presumably the sellers digging them out of old scrapped systems and then flogging them fraudulently as new.
