I've never owned a mesh chair, so I can't answer your question completely. I can say that the chair is very comfortable and sturdy. I'm a big man, 330+ pounds and, so far, this is the best desk chair I've had. I haven't had a long time, so I'm interested in how long it holds up, but so far it is great.
