A collection of classic stories and poems, but without any introduction or analysis
My first time returning to Dylan Thomas since I was a student in Swansea nearly 40 years ago. The musical quality of his writing, his wordplay and his exuberance are just as exhilarating to read now as they were then. But reading these poems and stories again, I can appreciate the darker elements more - the sense of mortality - as well as the sexual undertone of much of his work. I can also appreciate the humour more, particularly in his classic, "Under Milk Wood". Not quite the Complete Works, but almost. Unfortunately, apart from a brief chronology, there is no introduction or analysis for the first-time reader - so, a reader unfamiliar with Swansea or many of the references and symbolism of his works will not find this volume as enriching as it otherwise could have been if it had been contextualised with a thoughtful essay.

Fairly complete Dylan Thomas. Good value.
I can't really fault this collection of Dylan Thomas work including poems, stories, broadcasts and all of Under Milk Wood. It's around 400 pages and is excellent value at the price.

The Welsh Genius of Lyricism
Love him, loathe him or criticise his lifestyle, there is no denying Dylan Thomas was born with a typically Welsh talent for words and the rhythm and cadence of poetry. Maybe his best days were behind him when he whisky'd himself to death, but this book undeniably illustrates that the man was a literary giant of the 20th century. His talent easily encompassed poetry, short stories and broadcasts and as history proves, time and time again, genius is usually contained within a very imperfect human being, sometimes prone to self-destruction. We can only be glad he lived as long as he did and left such a small but perfectly formed legacy. If you buy one Dylan Thomas book for your shelves, let it be this one, and go straight to 'Fern Hill'.....

Lovely book for Dylan Thomas fans.
A birthday gift for someone too young to have read Dylan Thomas but old enough to appreciate him!

Dylan Thomas
Thomas is a matter of taste. To me, he often showed literary genius. The start of "Under Milkwood" is a truly inspired and beautiful piece of prose. His Childhood memories of a Christmas in Wales is funny, evocative and unique. Both are contained here, alongside many other gems. This book is a comprehensive, no frills collection of his works. It is also very reasonably priced! Highly recommended.

A book that lets itself be read.
A wonderful collection. And the print is large enough and dark enough to actually be read with pleasure. Thank you, Orion.

Difficile ma ne vale la pena
Autore grandioso. Poesie, racconti, scritti con passione e straordinaria fantasia. Il linguaggio non è affatto semplice, anche se si ha una buona padronanza dell'inglese, ma ne vale la pena.
