I can't believe I could get excited about something as pedestrian as a network switch, but this little ZyXEL is phenomenal! From the all-metal construction to the direct AC in (no wall wart, woohoo!), and I shouldn't forget to mention the bundled 'L" brackets to attach it to a standard 19" rack, this is a professional unit at hobbyist prices. Performancewise, it's hard to say anything other than it works, and it works well. It replaces my aging 100BT Netgear which started shutting down on hot days. I'm not ready for PoE, but it's nice to know it's there should I need it. Bottom line: a quality, professional gigabit switch with all the features you could want, at a price you can't resist. I'm thrilled!

Bought this new 10 years ago. It's 2025 and it still is working.

Update: Downgrading to 3 stars... So I purchased this in April 2013 from Amazon. It has worked flawlessly for about the last 4.5 years and this past weekend it just stopped working. Power light still on but none of the network lights on and I wasn’t getting anything on my network from any device that was hooked up to it. I tried several things to troubleshoot but nothing... Quite disappointing. I ended up getting a NETGEAR GS324 to replace it in my rack. Hoping that will last longer than this did. Original Review: I hooked this up in my rack for my theater room and it hasn't failed yet over the 4 months I have had it in. It is reasonably priced and simply gets the job done.

Needed to get gigabit across a room, so i gave my girlfriend's sector a 5 port gigabit, and bought this to replace a 16 port SMC fast ethernet switch. Glad i did it! SSD to SSD over the gigabit link is really fast, as it should be. The ports are really close together, so if you're wiring this up make sure you put the bottom plugs in before you fill the top ports. Unless you're rack mounting this, in which case it shouldn't matter. I've currently filled 10 ports with no issues. This unit runs silent! There's an on/off switch on the back, as well. Dunno why that's useful, but it is a consumer grade switch. All in all this was worth the price!

The first unit smelled burnt when I took the plastic wrapper off and, sure enough, it did not work at all. Pilot lamp did not come on. But, this gave me a chance to test out the Amazon return/replacement policy that I had never had to invoke before. They sent out a replacement the next day after the report. I sent the other one back the same day so they crossed in the mail. Second one arrived quickly and I unpacked it. Did not smell burned. Worked and is online yet. Fast and good. Now I have some ports to spare when I need extras. The one it replaced was 8 ports and was full. Doubled the port count now. Only problem (and it is by design) is that this is laid out for a commercial installation and I am using it desktop at home. The power is on the back, the ports and lights are on the front. That causes a minor problem with the unit wanting to move about because of the cables fore and aft, but can be handled. After 8 ports, they are considered commercial and become double sided like this. Would have liked it better with everything on one side but that's the way it goes for the larger port count units and I needed the port count. Recommended. Small and easy to use. Works well.

Nothing fancy here. Just a solid, 16-port, unmanaged Gigabit switch at a reasonable price. The description claims support for a couple of enterprise networking protocols, but I think this is mainly window dressing, because this is not the kind of switch that one would buy for a large, corporate network. I used it in the wiring closet for a home that has Ethernet in the walls and network jacks in some of the rooms. The bottom of the switch has holes for mounting on a wall, but I had to bring my own anchors and flathead screws, as none were provided in the box. Other than that, there's nothing to configure about this switch. Just plug & play.

I purchased this switch as a replacement for a failed switch of the same model. I did not want to wait for the turnaround time for warranty replacement, so I purchased a replacement and thought I would use the warranty return item as a spare whenever I received it from Zyxel. After about a year and a half, the original began failing, but I was able to get it to work by power cycling it. Within the next few months, the switch failed completely and power cycling did not get it working again. When I contacted Zyxel in April 2025 to get a warranty replacement for the original switch, I learned that their "Limited Lifetime Warranty" is not anything like what I consider to be a lifetime warranty. The limitation is that the product warranty is effective for five years past the EOL date of the product. To me, a lifetime warranty, even when it is limited, means the coverage period is for however long I own the product. To Zyxel, it doesn't mean that at all. I purchased the original switch in 2023. When I contacted Zyxel and provided the serial number to them, they said the defective switch was manufactured in 2017, which means I was sold a 6 year old product. Not only that, but they also told me this switch model reached its end of life in 2013. I cannot think of any reason why a switch would be manufactured four years after its end of life. If what the Zyxel representative said is true, they continued to manufacture unsupported equipment for several years past the end of its "lifetime." Doing that would seem to reduce its Limited Lifetime Warranty to practically nothing. At least the switch is so inexpensive that it isn't a significant loss, but the terminology Zyxel uses to describe its warranty seems to me to be rather deceptive.

La versión del producto que llegó no era como se publicitaba en la página. Además de otras características, había una foto donde se veía claramente que había un interruptor ON/OFF en la parte delantera que para mí era muy útil para hacer un restart en caso de necesidad. En cambio llegó una versión nueva sin este botón. Esta versión nueva tiene solo un cable de conexión trasera sin interruptor así que en mi opinión resulta muy incómodo dado que el equipo está dentro de un rack. Cuando se envía un producto distinto de lo que se publicita en las fotos, antes de enviarlo, deberían contactar con el cliente o si o si. Yo vivo en Canarias y recibir el producto lleva dos semanas, volver a enviárselo y esperar nuevo envío llevaría aproximadamente otro mes y esto no es practicable para mí. Por eso al final decidí tener esta versión. Por este motivo pongo solo tres estrellas.

Habe mittlerweile Schon zwei Switche verbaut der eine läuft nun seit 8 jahren fehlerfrei ohne Neustart durch. Deswegen 5 Sterne
