Pentair08650-0079 Float Assembly with O-Ring Replacement Sta-Rite U-3 Pool and Spa Skimmer

I ordered and installed two of these. The o-ring on one was too big, so I cut it and trimmed off about 1/2 inch so that it would fit in the bottom of the skimmer. The o-ring on the other one fit perfectly. So far so good.

I received the item in perfect condition, it fits exactly as it should and the cost is at least $20 less expensive than the pool equipment supply store.

Well, I'm one of those people who went years without one of these because I inherited a pool and just didn't know better. Which means for four years, I've only been filtering water off the top of the pool and not from the main drain at the bottom of the pool. Sigh! :-)This model was cheaper than other options, but it seems to work fine. My only complaint is that there were no instructions. The device is pretty simple, so you wouldn't think you would need instructions, but...well, I'll tell my story.It comes with two O-rings. A small one and a large one. The small one pretty obviously fits in a grove on the inside of the device and provides a good seal for when the float goes down. (That's what happens when the water level gets too low, and the float going down assures that water will get pulled from the main drain assuring that the pump won't go dry and ruin your pump.)I couldn't figure out where the second O-ring went. I didn't see another groove in the product for it to go in. I thought maybe it went around the outside of the product to help make a seal between the side of the product and the wall of the skimmer well. But I failed to get it to stay there in several attempts. (Amusingly, one time it completely got away from me and got sucked down the drain. I thought I was completely screwed, but I was able to recover it from the strainer basket of the pump.)Finally, I realized that there is a groove, but it's in the skimmer well, not on the device I just purchased. In hindsight, that's pretty obvious, because the suction pulls the device down against the bottom of the skimmer well, so that's where the seal needs to be. But hindsight is 20/20.So, once you know that, installation is a snap. I guess one last piece of advice would be to turn off the pump before putting in the O-ring so that you don't lose it down the drain like I did. :-)

Wish it has instructions on how to adjust the flap but otherwise exact fit. Much cheaper price than a pool store as well and received quickly

My pool didn’t have a float valve when I moved in. This was the perfect fit. The gasket was the correct fit for the bottom of the skimmer, although it fiddly to fit as you have to stretch it into place.

Arrived quickly and was exactly what I needed. Protects skimmer from low water level by pulling water from main drain. Also allows to balance water intake between skimmer and main drain.
