Mastrad Paris Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder

I had been eyeing a battery operated pepper grinder...but found none with a 4-5 star rating. I took my chances on this one...it is a steal. I cook everyday 2-3 meals, this has helped out so much vs the manual grinder. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it's very top heavy & has toppled over from my stove shelf & the grinding rotating option at the very bottom stays on one grind which is a cracked med ground...I can not change it to fine. Over all for the price, I truly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. ps make sure the batteries are in properly otherwise you make think your grinder is a lemon (does not come w/a guide on which way to point the batteries)  Orka Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder .

The Mastrad Paris Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder is actually battery operated, has four compartments for the double A batteries and was at first hard to open. I thought twisting the wrong way would break the spice holder but it didn't that shows great craftsmanship. I have use it for a few couple of months but no breaks,I use it for mostly pepper though. Don't turn the dial all the way though on the bottom so you would know what kind of grind you are getting. It lights up so you would know if you are using the battery and if you want to make battery life longer take out the batteries, but it's not that necessary to. Get small peppercorns and salt crystals though because the compartment for them is not to big but other than that this product is a good find and deal.

I looked at a salt and pepper grinder on Ebay for $18.00, which was recommended by a friend. I looked on Amazon because I am a Prime member. When the add said salt and pepper grinder I was expecting two grinders, one for salt and one for pepper just like the pair I could have purchased on Ebay. To my surprise the item I bought from Amazon is either a salt or a pepper grinder. The cost on Amazon is $18.00 for one, the cost on Ebay is $18.00 for a pair. (NOT THE SAME BRAND) This grinder grinds pepper OK. It is hard to get the AA batt. into the grinder. Where is my salt grinder? Sept. 26th the salt and pepper grinder fell apart today after just one oz of pepper. When grinding pepper the lower section began rotating, not just the grinding blade, as it turned the wires for the light stretched and broke, and now the bottom section will not stay on the unit. Pepper corns went everywhere. I can't return it and I can't use it. Now I will buy the pair on Ebay as suggested by my friend, the ones he has used for years. $18.00 for the pair of grinders. This has been the worst purchase I have made in all the years I have been shopping at Amazon.

Works well. Nice grinding options. Only minor complaint is sometimes the light works and most times it does not. Minor problem. Not worth returning. Great little electric pepper mill.UPDATE: After leaving my initial review, I started experiencing problems with the pepper mill.Entirely stopped working about a year ago. Thought it was the batteries, so I replaced them. Again, and again.Just seems to me like some sort of loose connection somewhere within the grinder itself. When it worked (which was about 50% of the time) it got the job done. I know there are better (higher end) options out there. Just didn't want to spend a fortune on one. I will be looking for a better one to replace this one. Dropping my original 4 star review down to 2.

I would return this thing if I lived in the US and had a reasonable way to do so. I bought it as a gift, and it's not decently enough made for that. Although the design seems pretty good, the finish is poor and the plastic pieces inside have that soft, ragged look that means, I think, that they are formed from recycled plastic bags. The real deal breaker is that this grinder is not even really functional. When you press the button, it may or may not engage and turn on the grinding mechanism. You have to press it a little cock-eyed to have the best odds of its working. The button feels wobbly, as if the spring under it lets it glide around, and the whole interior looks as if it's been kept in a damp garage. Probably,I'll be able to open it up and clean the contacts, adjust the spring a bit, and get a short life out of it. But really...seek a better one. I feel burned.If I had ordered this from DealExtreme, I might have understood the risk that this would turn out to be so miserable, but I was caught off guard when it came through Amazon.

I have ordered these previously and the last one was not up to the same standard. The top part would not come off--that one was sent back and replaced. The second one the top would not stay on. I paired it with one I had previously and it stayed on fine and was usable. Their quality control seems to have changed.

I love this grinder, and works great with no issues. The only issue is it is a bit pricey, and I thought I was going to receive (2) instead of (1). They really need to label it as a Salt or Pepper grinder and mention more clearly that it is (1) only.

I bought 2 of these a while ago. So far, one has broken and the 2nd grinds so pitifully, it's a joke. I have tried adjusting the thing on the bottom, but it doesn't help much.I bought these, realizing they were cheap, to see if my partner would use them. That part of the test worked - until now. So now I am out looking for replacements - something made with a little more quality than these. But they were good "trainer" grinders....
